I bought a 97 cavalier 2.2l auto off my uncle. His son and his buddies put an aftermarket sound system in the car, and botched all the wiring (to say the least.)
Me and my buddy pulled the car apart and put all the wiring back to stock, because he took all the aftermarket audio components with him when i got it.
So i have an all stock system now. My question is about the gauge cluster.
The headlight light on the dash comes on and stays on when i have the car on, and the radio display is bright (as it would be at night.)
But, when i turn the headlights on, the light on the dash goes out and the radio goes dim.
What would cause this? thanks
the radio is supposed to be bright when the lights are off and dim when they are on so its not really bright at night
o i thought its the other way around so its brighter at nite so you can see it better
Seems like the dimmer switch on the left side of the dash may need to be adjusted? Just throwing it out there.

sounds right to me. there really is no headlight indicator, except for highbeams. the indicator your seeing, is probably for your drl's.
what you're describing is normal operation, on both counts.
car audio noob since 1984.
oh haha ok thanks! i guess my cousin isnt that much of a dumbarse
another problem now! i forgot about this, but my ABS light is on!
It stays on all the time, and i should add when i slam on the brakes comin to stop, the car always slides, no matter what the road conditions are.
This HAS to have something to do with the ABS system right?
Check your connections on the sensors located by the brakes on the front hubs.
