my 96 cav already has a apline cd radio installed, do I still need to take off the front dash pad in order to install my new JVC cd radio?

Unfortunately, yes. There is no other way to get the the tabs on the sleeve to pull the deck out.
It really isn't that bad though. I can have the dash cover, bezel and deck out in 5 minutes flat.

also since i already had a aftermarket radio in it i only needed my new radio right, i dont need another mounting kit nor a wire harness?

If no one used a back strap on the deck you should be able to slid it out with no issues..But if back strapped you will need to pull the dash pad,which really is not hard to do.

If it already has an aftermarket deck, you shouldn't need any additional parts except for the harness for the new deck which it should have come with.

right it has new harness with new deck.

and i think i tried to pull on it and it seems tight so i will proceed with pulling out the dash pad.
