I dislike MTX. But id need more info on the sub to tell if thats any good.

IMO you can get a better sub for 200 if you know where to look and what to look for.

I got my 15 Type R for 220 shipped and I think a 12 Type R is like 150 apiece and I think theyre a much better sub for the money.

i've heard jackhammers, i've also heard type e (the old school ones with the white dustcaps and blue lettering AND the newer ones with the grey dustcaps) type r, type s, and type x's. know what? they ALL sounded better than the jackhammers.

to the OP, you can get pairs of new jackhammers on ebay shipped for less than that.

car audio noob since 1984.

This thread(especially omg my jackhammers sound better than Type-S, and the dip@!#$ that thinks Alpine sucks and that's why Type-R's are reasonably priced) is full of absolute ignorance. If you don't KNOW car audio in any kind of way, and just HAVE some kind of bull@!#$ "system" stick to asking questions and leaving comments. STOP giving advice you mindless morons. Seriously.

Why all the sudden are we comparing Type S subs to Jackhammers? I said Type Rs. Type Rs are a higher level sub. Durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Anyways I love my Type R it got loud and clean and loved the abuse.

Ive never heard of anyone besides you having problems with Alpine. Ive never heard an MTX system that I liked. My Alpine 9886 also functions flawlessly.

For the money you cant do much better for a brand new sub.

I threw 1100 watts at mine daily and Ive seen 15s take up to 2500 in a burp. It never showed a sign of tiring out or breaking. It hit the lows nicely and still had a nice bit of SQ.

say what you want i heard them both next to each other, and oh the type s's where in a ford car maybe thats why they sound like @!#$

No its because theyre Type S's. Theyre cheap as hell and perform as such.

Re: mtx jackhammer

Unnnnhhhhhhhh

Alpine makes different trim levels.

Type S and type E are basically @!#$, (although the Type S components aren't awful
Type R, Type X, F#1 Status are great sounding speakers and I'd buy them over MTX any day.

MTX also makes different trim levels
Some of them sound quite good. Some of them sound like absolute garbage.

Does that mean that MTX is garbage? NO. Does that mean that Alpine is the greatest speaker company ever? Absolutely not.

But to place your judgment of a company on a single comparison between one company's (MTX) flagship, and another (Alpine)'s entry level equipment is retarded.

yeah your right its all difrent quality and stuff still think people should f off saying mtx is garbage while its quite good for the price, well for what i got mine for anyways, you dont need the best qualitly stuff in the world for something like a sunfire or cavalier anyways

Au contraire

If it's your beater car, then yes, why bother.

But if it's your main form of transportation then there is no 'maximum quality' that can go into it. A car's audio potential can be virtually limitless.

Re: mtx jackhammer

i wouldnt call my car a beater but its not that good ethier i have 3 sunfires and there quality is not good I'd buy a good car for audio i mean if you can afford the best qualitly stuff for a low quality car then you should be able to get a decent quality car :s

Audio can transfer cars. Id rather put a grand in my audio than in a body kit that only works on one car.

yeah true that. thats what i was going to do with my next car or truck take my system out and put it in a difrent vehicle

What Alpine things did your friend have? What kind of problems? I am guessing all caused by lack of over all knowledge in tuning and install. Car audio, if going with a decent brand, usually doesn't have reliability issues like cars do, guy. It's almost ALWAYS in the install and tuning. You sold car audio at some chain store for 2 years. That doesn't make you an expert. It means you were trained in retail..... And btw, there is no pretending to be cool, it's called being a schooled and experienced person in the field. it's called having a lot of hands in experience. it's called knowing wtf I'm talking about before opening my mouth and getting annoyed with people like you. Even on this forum I have plenty of people who know me and know that I don't talk about @!#$ I don't know about and have experience. The car audio forum is NOT where you are going to come in and "own" or "school" me, nor will you be calling me out on any BS.

I will put in my opinions.
I have used and heard MTX products over the years and they were good,I am not to familiar with the jack hammed Subs,But if like there other products I am sure it works Very well.

I had a Alpine Type R 15 in my old set up for about 2 years. It was in a sealed box and I was very happy with it,I then had one of the 2 voice coils let go on me and that was the end of the road for it.

At the shop I used to work at we did have some issues with the alpine type R15 subs,Most of them were voice coils going,But some never had a issue..So it like all electronics its a crap shoot...

In my 20 years of installing and selling car audio at high end shops,I have found that if a Sub in in the right box,And you have a amp with good power not a walmart amp,And someone that knows how to install and tune a system you will be happy with any choice of sub.And don't always listen on peoples out looks, try it for yourself..Remember everyones ears are different and what sounds good to one will not sound good to another...And if you are building your own box,try different box designing.Best of luck with your decision.

this guy has the best info on this post, read his last paragraph, let it sink in, then read it again.

i could show you guys with $800 subs that sound like crap because they don't know how to properly build a box to save there lives. your system may sound better then yoru buddies even if your running a lower end sub if you built your box right and his isn't. when i was little i heard a dozen jl audio setups and they all sounded like crap. i just assumed they were junk. then a guy had me listen to his. i realised that all the other idiots just didnt know how to build a box. people need to spend more time working on getting the install right and less time worrying about what brand is plastered on the dust cover. ive seen guys with rockford, mtx, alpine, clarion, pioneer, all stand on the stage to pick up trophies at world finals events. if you install it right, it will sound good.

truth. It makes me laugh though. I don't know if I believe it, because he hasn't shown a single bit of knowledge that he claims to have from this "high end" audio shop he "worked" for... meh whatever. Keep ranting and raving and crying and freaking out dude.

only thing i'll add is if you work for an audio chain you see first hand what amount of product fails do to returns and customers. basing your decision on an entir audio chain based off of one person experience seems kinda like not the most technical way of judging a companies product.
