Not sure if a tutorial for this has already been covered but if not here's something that's being done commonly with the Ecotecs.

The ECU relocate!

Here's my step by step.




Disconnect the battery!




First we have to take the wiper arms off.. Next, we have to disconnect the washer hose.







These trim fasteners are the best. Just pull up the center, and pull the fastener out.




Take off this piece of trim.



Were going to stuff that ecu up there on the passenger side.



loosen the two clamps securing the intake pipe, then remove the pipe.




Take out the battery.




Lift the fuse block.



Pull the airbox out.




That's the grommet we will feed the harness through.



Remove this plug.




Loosen the two nuts securing the bracket.




Remove the black plug.




Remove the ecu from the bracket.




Now we have to route the harness through the firewall.



Move this outa the way.



Pull out the grommet.



... OOPS! ... the plug wont fit!?!



....HMMM.... *scratches* :idea:



Remove the top half of the plugs casing like this.



Insert a small flat head like this to pull out the lever one side at a time.




TADA!!



Remove the casing and lever on both plugs and strip off the loom.



...Easy... Easy....




Feed the plugs into the firewall.



reloom wire up to the grommet, then install grommet to firewall. Then reloom ecu harness in firewall.





I decided to tap the holes on the ecu that were use for the dowel pins on the bracket.



Measured three times, drilled once.



Locktite!




Properly secure ECU harness to existing wiper motor harness and check for clearance with wiper motor arm rotation. Once harness is secured properly, everything can be reassembled.



Done!







I think this is how it should have been done from factory, and as you can see water will not be able to leak into the ECU.

nice writeup. but i still don't see the need to go thru all that work when you can just pop the wiring thru the firewall gromment into the interior and route it to the panel under the radio area, its aperfect fit, take 10 minutes to do. no cutting, no drilling, no removing wipers and cowling.

not too sure i like the idea of putting the computer somewhere it will get wet every time it rains... under the wiper cowling that is, not inside...

Mine doesn't get wet at all, monsoon rains here, car washes, engine details... nice and dry. Plus I don't have to listen to the sounds of the transmission coming though the grommet from putting it under the stereo.

Yup, as stated it's already been done ^, However I am really glad that there is a well explained how to with pictures this time.

mine is inside the car also which is alot easier IMO.. on a side not damn your bay is dirty lol clean that tihng..

yeah i dont think water will do any damage too it, if it did it would have issues while it was under the hood in the stock position.

ive just never understood how big a hole you guys must be cutting in your grommet to get noise, you only cut it as big as it needs to be. ive probably got 100 wires going thru my grommet with no noise whatsoever.

I personally didn't cut in the grommet, so I don't know how big the whole was (it wasn't my car). I just noticed a lot of trans noise when I drove the car that wasn't there before.

It could have been user error making a huge hole.

My thoughts exactly. The only other thing you have to disconnect is the battery.
Clean that bay!!! 20 minutes with a damp rag.
But nice step-by-step walk through with pics.
