Speaker suggestions

Ok, so I've been looking on Sonic Electronix for a new set of components, and I need a few suggestions.

Been looking at either
JBL C608GTI for $229.99
JL Audio ZR650-CSi $449.99

So suggestions
1) Between the 2, which one should I get? Is the dramitc increase in price worth it? Any other suggestions in that price range?
2)Suggestion of a better website perhaps?
3)Also looking to get a mid woofer to put in kick panels - suggestions there as well?

Finally, I had a JBL 4 channel amp - which got fried when my trunk leaked and water got into it. Any suggestions on a 4 channel amp that would power the componenst and the rears? Or on a good 2 channel amp - that I would get 2 of. I'm looking to totally revamp my sound system.

Thanks!

I love my JLs

JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

Ok.... if you are spending in the $300-$400 range, I would HIGHLY suggest Rainbows.. I can ask my dealer what kind of components we would be looking at in the price range, but I think I remember him saying the Germaniums are in the $400 range, and they are by far the BEST set of 2-way components I have ever laid my ears on.

But if you are interested in going with a high end German brand, from one of the very few fully authorized American dealers, with full FACTORY warranty, let me know. I don't like emailing or calling him if I'm not ready to send business his way lol.

I can also talk about amp choices, but the 4 channel iPaul from Rainbow is a killer amp as well. I might be able to get you slightly better pricing on a package deal. The dealer I go through is the ONLY factory warranty return point in the country for a few of the real high end companies, and he is the best selling dealer of Rainbow, Tru, and Sinfony in the country. I have dealt with him for years and he loves to give deals when you buy more than 1 thing.

Just let me know all of what you are looking for, because if you are spending that kind of money, I could help put you in some really nice stuff.

Hi, are you looking to go with a really nice SQ setup?

I do want to go with a really nice sound quality system, but I want it to be able to go LOUD. I like to listen to my music really loud, but I want it clear. I'm not looking to spend like $2000-$3000 on it either though. I'm happy with my one 10-inch sealed sub that I have. Gives me enough boom - just looking to get some nice clear sound to complement it. I had JBL GTO 607c (components) and JBL GTO-927s (6x9). Stated off great but I ended up pushing them too hard - need something thats a little clearer and louder.

Definitely would look into some Rainbow components man. The Germaniums should be in the mid to low $400's. If that is what you are looking to spend on some JL components, I can say first hand that the Germs. should EASILY impress the @!#$ out of you for the price.

Also, before I go nuts asking the dealer about comp prices, recommendations, amp prices, etc... What kind of music do you primarily listen to and what ALL do you need to buy? Just the comps and amp?

You can make your own set too. A set of tang band woofers, morel tweeters, and then grab a crossover.

I also love the sound of the Rainbow components. Definitely listen to these guys.. they tend to know what they are talking about

Considering "JLAudioCavalier" is turning me down from JLs its kind of ironic but I definately trust these guys. Ideally I'd love to upgrade the whole sound syste at once - but that would be too costly. I'm also not necessarily looking at buying everything right now. Winter is coming and I wont have much time to install them - but I do wanna get an idea of what I want. I'm not gonna like talk about spending X amount of money and then not do it when it comes to it like some people on the forums do. I just wanna get the setup done on paper first.

Thanks for the help and suggestions everyone - JL I wouldn't expect you to call your dealer until I am ready so dont worry about it. I didn't even know Rainbows exsisted - this is why I am asking.

Just to clear something up though - I am obviously aware that there are better brands than others and other specs that need to be considered such as frequency response, but so I've been primarily weeding through speakers looking at RMS wattage. Is this ok to be doing? Like I said I want nice sound quality but loud - is what I'm doing making sense?

Absolutely. I like loud just like every other guy. But I also like crisp. And I like wang. My setup is very very clean, but of course the subs are SPL and so are the sub amps. 4 channel and all 47 speakers sound really good though.

I think you are going into it far better and with much more desire to learn than most people who are new to high end, or even upgraded audio. Just keep looking, reading and learning. When the time comes to spend some money, I will talk to the dealer that I deal with on stuff like True, Sinfony, and Rainbow. But until then, I can simply give advice on what to try and listen to, and look into.

if your in no hurry to buy check the sound quality organisastions out there and see if there are any events near you. most are dying down for winter but its finals time for most right now so if you can get out to an event ask some guys if you can listen to their car youlle be able to hear allot of the higher quality gear most of your local stores wont have.

Lanman - how in the blue hell do you have 47 speaker in your car? Where do you place them all - on the roof? LOL
Thanks for the info guys - I've been trying to look into all the advice. I like Sndsgd's advice - althought considering im in Quebec and its already friggin cold - I doubt there is going to be any more competitions going on.

What's everyone's take on the Kicker 08ZX850.4 amplifier. It seems pretty sound and powerful. I also hear that kicker underrates their amps - which means on paper this thing packs a punch.

Lanman counts the woofers and tweeters of the components sets separately.

Kicker isnt the best stuff

Might I suggest one of the new optidrive 4 channel amps, or even better, if you want ungodly good sq, go with one of the new Zed Audio 4 channels with the BB upgrade.

i cant fault kicker myself. ive been running their amps for the last 5 years without any issues, my sub amp puts out 50% more power then it is rated at. theres nothing wrong with them really.

I guess Kicker depends on the series you get. Kicker gets sold in a lot of Walmart type stores around here. Everyone runs it. Ive never been crazy impressed. But most of that is probably die to lack of install experience.

Nah, just means they've done the homework for you. Install still matters though with pre made or diy. Like a two way component set crossing over at 4khz with the woofer mounted flat to the door off axis isn't going to have the same response as some door/kick pods that are more on axis due to the off axis dropoff after you start passing 1khz. On the other hand trying to get a lower crossover you need to look for tweeters with a low Fs, and even then that isn't a guarantee they won't sound strained.
