so i finally installed my 2 memphis s class 12's with a memphis PR 1000.1 amp...it has been working great and they pound.....but last night a dime fell in my cigarette lighter and i heard a fuse pop... my lights in the car didnt work and the radio and amp wouldn't come on.....so i got home and changed a little 20 amp fuse that had popped.....then everything seemed to work....today, i took my truck to get the ignition fixed because it was sticking and hurting my starter...so i fixed that and when i turned my radio on everything seemed to work fine at first. then all the sudden everything cut off...the radio cut off first which of course caused the amp and subs to stop...then i turned it back on and checked the wiring and everything was fine. what was wierd is that my whole head unit settings reset....so i fixed it and everything worked fine...i came back later and cranked up my truck and then it did it again....it only seems to do it at first within the first few minutes of starting my truck.....im not sure what would cause this i know everything is wired right and i checked the wiring and ground. the amp isn't going into protect or anything, the HU simply cuts off until i turn it back on.
Sounds like a bad ground at the deck maybe.
why would it just start happening now...it hasn't ever done that in the 3 months ive had it
I was thinking itt might share a ground with your ignition switch
it might...the vehicle is a 91 chevy 454ss...im not sure where its grounded because i just spliced the wires and taped them....could this problem hurt my amp or anything because if it only does it when the truck is first started i can just wait to turn it on
check the voltage on your yellow and black wires at the deck harness.
If it's sitting lower than 11V it's probably a bad ground. It's never good to run electronics on low voltage, although I'm not sure if it'd damage anything immediately.
i checked all my grounds and they seem fine...now the radio resets when it cuts off...that has to be something with the battery but everything else in the truck works fine.. its not when i turn it up loud or anything its just completely random..it shuts off and resets all my settings then cuts back on almost like i disconnected the positive side of the battery...i don't know what else to do
I don't like playing this card but, I do this for a living. Trust me, it's either your black or yellow wire or the deck itself.
When you "checked" your ground, what did you do? If you used a voltmeter, that won't show the problem because your issue is "random".
Run a new wire from the black on the deck to bare metal on the chassis. If that doesn't work, run a fused wire from the yellow behind the deck to you battery. (This isn't the closest location of constant power, but probably the easiest.
Fuse the wire at 10A
so i checked my voltage and it seemed fine...today though, my HU decided that when it cut off this time, it would stay off..so i checked the fuse on the HU and it was fine. i checked my fuse box and it was fine but i replaced some old fuses anyway and the radio came back on. so i start to turn up the volume and boom, it cuts off.. now it won't cut on at all...i took it to an audio shop and they said that it looked like i was using too much wire but i highly doubt its that simple. i have no clue what is going on with the HU now
using too much wire? Did you rerun the ground and power like brad suggested? Its either that or the internal ground or power is coming loose.
We need to nominate this guy for winner of the year. You and Anton keep running neck and neck.
Your car may do 13 sec @ 103 mph, but my car does 146db @ 35 hz.
