Need some help...stock speaker replacement.

First off, I have never gotten into car audio at all. I am simply looking to replace my stock blown speakers and upgrade to a better sound. I might add a head unit with a USB input so I can use my IPod while driving.

Now, I went to best buy to hear some speaker models and talk to them for opinions / referances. I'm replacing all 4 of my speakers, the only thing they had in both 6x9and 4x6 was the Infinity Referance, which wasn't hooked up so I don't even know what they sound like but being Infinity has a good name I'll trust them! So the sales guy tells me that in order to run those speakers with my stock head unit I need to amp them but I would be safe upgrading my head unit to this one, which I actually liked as far as looks and features. Now was this dude just trying to upsell and make a comission on me or is all this true? All opinions are welcome here, thanks in advance.

He's trying to upsell you. Plain and simple.

Your car may do 13 sec @ 103 mph, but my car does 146db @ 35 hz.

That's what I figured. Are these speakers any good?

infinity are decent sounding for the money. a good everyday speaker, allot of people are happy with them, but personally if yoru going to spend the money i'd listen to what your going to buy before you buy it. your ears are the best judge for what sounds good. most decent aftermarket speaker will sound allot better with more power. but personally i prefer to power my speakers with an amp and not off the headunit. even if it is an aftermarket headunit.

I'd do some 6 1/2s in the doors, 6x9s in the back deck, and 50x4 will be fine for what you need.
