need some audio advice
Tuesday, August 25, 2009 8:58 AM
so i have some brand new sets of components sitting in my apartment for some time now and since no one wants to buy them i guess i will stick them in........but while im at it i might as well put a new head unit in as well.

ive been looking at the Alpine iDA-X305

the components i have are mb quart 4x6s and 5 1/4s so i figured that plus maybe a small JL amp http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1363004V2/JL-Audio-Slash-v2-Series-300-4v2.html?tp=115

any one got any advice...... i dont want a huge crazy expensive sound system and i really dont want subs

thanks

Win. My suggestion would be to get a shallow mount sub for a little backbone and put it in a small sealed box.

It's not more headaches, unless you're wanging hard for long periods of time, and you're looking maybe an extra 20 pounds. Crunch/Hifonics/MbQuartz/Autotek are all the same company.

What you mean is the mother company of Hifonics bought out MBQ. MBQ used to be amazing, now I wouldn't trust them unless everything is the same, just new onwership.

I don't like Maxxsonics that much. Hifonics speakers have always been laughable, their amps have always been power hungry and over rated. And Crunch is a low level company. Sort of like how RF owns Lightening Audio... Crunch is the Lightening Audio of Maxxsonics. @!#$ them.

Sorry Lanman, we disagree HUGELY on this one.

yeah seems mb quart has changed hands several times in the last 10 years, a bit dissapointing, ive used them forever, but will have to look closey whenever i decide to get new speakers.

With Maxxsonics owning them now,. I would look VERY closely next time you want to buy some of their stuff.

Again, it's time to HUGELY disagree. Hifonics upper line are some pretty sick amps. People buy the BX series amps because they can get big power inexpensively. Power hungry? Sure, if it's a 4000 watt class a/b amp. Class D is way more efficient brother. Crunch GP or Groundpounder series put out just about rated power, and you can get big amps fairly inexpensively.

Dont get the media units. They get really annoying

I hate to recommend buying a unit that takes away convenience. So I am also going to heavily suggest against the media units. You might use your iPod a ton, but Cd's are always handy.

I would check out the 988X models that Alpine has out right now. Definitely nice units!

how much do you care about audio quality. a cd will always sound better then an ipod

quality is important but i also am never going into any sound comps or whatever. i just want something small for everyday driving since the paint on my stock head unit is peeling off bad and i got these components sitting

how bout this headunit instead

Isn't this Jason's thread? How did it turn into SundownFire's thread? ....

But no, neither of you should be disappointed with what you get for the money out of the 9886.
