Hey Guys
Im kinda new on here and never posted bfore but im building a car (specs in myprofile) and have gottin pretty far along and im getting pumped to drive it well heres the problem i Have rewired the car for and ecotec swap because it was a 1998 body and i have added all the options when i did it and now my drivers door wont unlock either by pushing the buttin on the door or useing the keyless fob neith will unlock the door the passengers door works 100 percent the door will lock just wont unlock but you can here the relay kick just nothing happens same with the trunk with the neither buttin on the dash or the key fob it will open but again you can here the relay kick with nothing happening. So i asked at my local GM dealer the said check grounds and printed me all the grounds out in the body and they are all hooked up so then i replaced both the trunk pooper and the drivers door electric latch witch wernt cheap i have no idea whats wrong guys please help everything else works fine i need help ASAP!!!!!! when i get done i will make a post with before and after pictures
Thanks Guys for all you help in advance
well grab your meter and check for continuity between teh switch all teh way to teh relay if possible. Did you splice any wires in? check teh wires as far as you can go. Same thing for teh trunk...start and teh trunk and werk your way back to teh front of teh car...
I had issues with my doorlocks the other day (wouldn't lock or unlock any doors but the drivers door). Thought it was the relay swapped it out at $50... Came on this website and somebody said "fuse" i checked the fuse and it was blown. I felt like an idiot not looking at that first.
Thanks for the replys but i already checked the wires for breaks and made sure all grounds are good even replaced the relay the one over by your feet on the passengers side plus i got a new bcm still having the same problem if anyone knows anything let me know guys thanks!!!!!!!!
did you check to see if your wiring was plugged in to the lock selonoid. there really isnt much to it. maybe even try swapping switches from passenger to drivers and see if the problem still happens.
My guess would be the switch itself. Make sure none of the wires are pulled out. Check both doors.
thanks again for the help guys but i got a couple of switches i have tried and as i said the power locks themselves the whole latch comes with the electric lock itself so im kinda stuck here i wish i could just drop it off to be fixed but i even had the electrical guy take a look at it from my local chevy garage and he just shook his head but please keep giving me ideas maybe somthin will work. i might go buy a new trunk latch to see if that might just be dead. thanks guy.
Do you have all your grounds attached properly?
I did the same swap... 03 Eco into a 98 Z24... and until I attached the grounds under the dash and engine bay, if I started the car the driver's door would keep locking itself (without pushing the button). I had other electrical gremlins too... like hitting the horn made the turn signals flash, but no horn.
Very strange... but it was just a ground problem.
Sweet Thats probably it then because i just have my engine harness connected but my engine isant in yet hopfully thats all thats goin on then ill get the motor in probably in a few weeks and see how it goes. Thanks guys for all the help
I suspect if you put the grounds to the frame, it will probably solve your issues.

Makes perfect sense. Electricity likes to take the path of least resistance. Sometimes that path might be a hot wire and other things that shouldn't be grounds.
AJ - Do you have the ground to the battery tray still?

Ha, true that.
Once I was building a circuit for parklights, and they turned on because they found ground through a PUDDLE!
I've seen situations where car stereo amps will turn on without the ground hooked up, because it's using the chassis as the ground. Not very efficient at all.
hey guys thanks for the help it is probably a ground then cuase i have all the grounds on my engine harness tied together with a piece ov speaker wire then run to the body temporaply till i get the motor in ill just not stress about it anymore then cuase its sounds like maybe once i put them all in were they are supossed to go it might fix my problem That just means i gotta hurry up and get my eco in there!!!!!!! thanks again!!!!!!!
