DOn't know much about mobile audio.

So in my 97 sunfire GT coupe, when i turn my volume up on just the rear 6x9's i can turn it up the whole way, But when i take the fade and start to move it to my front speakers it will just shut off and then turn back on. I really don't under stand i thought at first it was the head unit so i bought a Sony X-plod deck, well it didn't help it helped a little but it just didn't fix it, I can turn the front on like very little. So i then figured that maybe the 4X6's in the doors where shot. "which they where still stock to begin with" so i put 6.5" speakers in both doors. Sony. like it matters on the brand, but it still didn't fix the skipping and shutting off. I have been working on the sounds in my car and have been trying to figure it out on my own, but it's just driving me nuts! I also have another question about the 6x9's that are in. Has anybody ever heard of the brand Memphis? are they good or bad?

I am also putting in an 650watt amp and i got a 300 watt 12" Sub. Any suggestions on which way i should mount it. I was thinking against the back seat facing the front. My buds are saying to mount it in the spare hole, and make it face up out of the trunk.

Thanks

first off. i have found the shutting off to be crappy stock wiring. replace the Ground. power. and acc. wires to your headunit with bigger gauge wire (18 Gauge should be just fine) and that should fix your problem. it did in my 96 cav at least. as for the brand memphis. they are fantastic. i had a set of memphis components and they sounded great. i have 2-12 inch memphis subs in a 3CU ft box right now and they sound great. im getting rid of them this weekend tho. as for mounting put it where it sounds best to you. but typically if its a sealed box face the sub towards the trunk. if its ported. have the port and the sub on the same face and also face it towards the trunk. . thats all i can give you for advice

^Werd, I had mine forward-firing, then a buddy said to turn them around, I did, and it was like a whole new stereo. I am running alpine type s components and pioneer 6x9's, never any volume issues.

Memphis is a good brand. Well known in the industry.

Each car is different on sub fireing. Mine likes a sealed box faeing back with box against the back seat. Ported , so far, it likes the sub forward and port to drivers side faceing the trunk wall pushed all the way back.

Typically, if you fire the subs forward against the back seat, you'll want to seal the trunk off from the front. I have yet to try this in my car to see if this is best over what I have tested so far.

Thanks guys sorry it took so long to get back. i but my memphis 6x9's back in and before i sat them in i put some poly fill under them. Dang it gave it a lot lower more punchy base. and Is 3/4 inch particale board good board to use when making a sub box.?

dont use particle board. use 3/4 MDF. but it also depends on what size/brand/number of subwoofers you are going to be using so.

It will never depend on what subs you are using, it is just plain a good rule to follow to at least use 3/4 MDF when making a sub enclosure. Particle board is not acceptable, and less than 3/4 inch is not sturdy enough. Whether or not your particular sub will do fine in 1/2 inch or particle board, it is a bad habit to get in.

Honestly. I agree that 3/4 mdf is best to use, but 1/2 or even particle board can be used if braced well enough.
