So the next thing on my list to do to my car is the stereo. Ive been looking around and I think Ive decided but want to get some other opinions. Im thinking 1 12" Alpine type R in a ported box, Alpine MRP-M500 Mono Amplifier, and this sony deck which I cant remember exactly which one. Are sony's alright? I dont see many but this one seems nice. Anything I should look for or avoid? Thanks in advance
What is your budget, what kind of features do you require the deck to have? Sony is NOT on my list of brands to recommend at all man.
Your sub set up should definitely be a satisfying starter set up. Alpine makes some solid stuff. I would even go ahead and get a good Alpine head unit. I am not all about brand matching, because some companies make some things better than others, but Alpine subs, amps and head units are all definitely worth looking into.

The decks Sony has been putting out this year is solid, not great, but a definite step WAY up from years past.
Im going to start buying everything one by one because its too much to buy all at once but im planning on spending a total of around 1000.
When you ask what kind of features I want it to have I dont know what you mean, like USB and stuff? because that stuff is not too big of a deal, if its there that be nice though.
Also the last cavy I had before this one was a 98 and when I got a deck put into that one they had to use one of those plates for the dash that has a huge lip and makes the unit stick out which was kind of ugly. Is there certain units I can use to avoid this problem? Also is sony just bad for reliability or quality of sound? or do they all put out the same quality of sound? If anyone could throw some links out to some good units they recommend or show pics/info of their own that be great because theirs so many to look into them all lol. Thanks in advance
Sony's build quality and over all quality just isn't where it should be compared to the other brands. And they still try to price them the same.
Anyway, look into Pioneer and Alpine, for the price you just can't go wrong. Find one in your price range that fits your needs.

I know this isn't exactly a top of the line model with world class sound quality but I'm running a new 2009 JVC KD-A305 headunit. It sounds SO much better than stock. Mine is satellite radio ready, has a built-in iPod controller, has a sweet-as-hell remote, and looks totally sick in my car. And the headunit by itself only cost me about $140. However, I would recommend you also upgrade your speakers as well if you order this one. Right now, my stock speakers just can't handle the everything getting thrown at them so I'm gonna upgrade to some solid 4x6 JVC speakers as well. From what I'm told, JVC is good for value as long as you're not looking for absolute top notch. Boston and Eclispe are near the top.
But that's just what I've been told.....

Lead, follow, or get out of the way...
It's only got 2ch RCA out, so that means if you ever decide to do a 4channel amp to your speakers you won't have fade control.
Depends if thats important to you or not.
if it only has 2 channel RCA outs that is a single set of preouts. He cant run more than a 2 channel amp AT ALL that way....
If that head unit is what you like, Clarion isn't a bad brand for quality.

Eh, a lot of amps have 2ch/4ch mode where you only need 2 channels to run a 4 channel amp. Then you can usually piggyback to a sub amp.
But then you have basically ZERO control. I'd hate that, but some will take it.
Well Im only planning on putting 1 amp for 1 sub so it should be fine right? and If I ever did upgrade my other 4 speakers (which I dont think I will anytime soon) I dont think Id need to run them through an amp because they would sound fine with just the 50Wx4 built in one in the head unit...I think
Thats fine, a lot of people just do a sub,
BUT
If you do go that route, make sure you turn on the HPF on your deck (High pass filter), it'll take some of the bass out of your main speakers (since your sub will take care of bass), so you can play louder without distorting them.
I'd recommend and HPF of 80 or if you never want to worry about it, 125.
WOW, that is an UGLY radio, looks like a PITA to get use to using too.
Haha I guess we just have really different taste. This one is smooth and simple looking unlike most all other decks that look all complicated and stuff this one is smooth and simple looking
Looks like a Boat Radio. White Radio in a Charchol dash??? YUK
We all have different taste.
I happen to like things that look good.

Summer projects ho!
So I have another question but didnt want to start a whole new thread... My question is, would you recommend I do the install of everything myself? I bought this car audio for dummies book which is really thorough but is it super hard? I do all of my own work on my cars/motorcycles so I have a good garage and all the tools and im pretty technical smart I guess you could say. Its just that for them to install it its like 300ish dollars. Im doing 2 10" alpine type Rs with the alpine MRP-M1000 amp and one of the alpine head units. I think I know everything I need, other than those things I need the 1000W amp kit, dash plate thingy, wire harness, and antenna adapter. Anything else I will need?
If you have any snags and need to ask questions, go for it. In the end, if you do it all right and do it all yourself, you will be far more satisfied and save money!

Your first time will be kinda rough but having nice helpful people to ask is great. I did not.
More satisfaction when you can look back and say you did it.
