Static from rear speakers?!?

Hey guys,

I recently just got my buddy to install two new MTX 6x9's in my car. I also bought a 2 channel MTX amp to run the speakers. Ever since the speakers and amp have been installed, there has been static and an alternator wine through the rear MTX speakers. The static only happens when the engine gets warm (ie. driving on the hwy for an extended period of time). We re-grounded at the amp, switched patch cords, and still cannot figure out what the problem could be. The wierd part is that when i turn all the sound to my front speakers, the static still comes through the rear 6x9's? Could my problem be the deck itself? or maybe the ground at the deck? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

check all your grounds, including deck
Btw, what kind of deck do you have....? that could be an issue<

The actual RCA cables could be the problem, the pre-out's on the head unit could be bad(not the most common, but I have actually seen them go bad on 2 head units in my time doing audio), Some loose speaker wire touching metal COULD make noise, but shouldn't produce alternator whine. Does the whine in the rear speakers change pitch, tone, or "speed" when you rev the engine up? If not, it is probably not alternator whine.

check ALL your connections. and make sure your rca's arent next to your power wires, im not sure if it creats static but it does affect the sound. im thinking its the rca's or the amp itself. your getting a signal from somewhere that shouldnt be there. also could be the power wire too close to the speaker wires, could cause some sort of noise when the power is running through the wire.

good luck

My first suggestion would be to check the 6x9s themselves.

Make sure the basket isn't shorting against the wires on the cones, etc.

Even when you fade to the front, if noise is present, it will still go through the cables. Noise doesn't really care when you've faded, unless it's caused by the amp.

Remove the RCAs and see if it stops. If so its coming from the head or somewhere in between. If you have a Pioneer head unit that may cause it. If your profile had some info it would help....... Sounds like a bad Pioneer to me cause I just fixed mine for a similar problem. I checked every ground nine times and replaced RCAs twice ended up being bad outputs.

Thanks for all the suggestions...I haven't had a chance to try anything else out yet. I will keep you updated if i get the problem fixed. Thanks again, Kayla

The whine does change pitch when you rev the car...the alternator whine is constantly there, but the only time the static starts is when the engine is warm and has been running for at least an hour. I first noticed it when I went on a 4 hour trip out of town. Could the static and alternator whine be two seperate problems?

could be. first thing i'd look at would be the ground to the amp and headunit, make sure its the right sized wire, securely fastened to bare metal (not painted metal)
