I'm curious if this will work or not. My fiance's Stock CD deck in her 99 cavalier doesn't play CD's anymore and I still have the stock CD deck from my 99 Sunfire GT. I'm just curious if these are interchangeable, cause if they are I'm going to put the sunfire deck in her car.
So basically...
99 Sunfire GT Preimum CD Deck (Monsoon?) into a 99 Cavi with ultra basic CD player. Will it work?
I'm trying to visualize what you have to work with. There was only one CD/Stereo unit offered in the '99 Cavalier and it was the top model that year with automatic volume compensation for vehicle speed. There were two cassette units offered, one like the CD unit and a lesser model. While these might all appear to be "ultra basic" by today's standards, they weren't in their day. The J-Body service manuals I have don't show any different radios for the Sunfire that year, but there were differences in controls (steering wheel) and such. That being said, I believe the '99 radios should interchange and were commonly used throughout all GM lines. (The '00 and up definitely will not, however.)
The cavi CD deck does have the speed sensitive sound. The sunfire deck does not, but the sunfire deck has the sound control things. The, you know, 6 knobs that slid up and down, to control bass/mids/treb? It has that.
I just called it basic, because her car is a base model.
So your saying they should be interchangeable. That's great. Thanks for the help!
Yes, they are interchangeable (as are all from 95-99). the biggest difference you will see is that the radio will light up red instead of green when you have the headlights on

Did I mention I drive a 2000 Lumina now?-----wigm-tuners.org member
^^ Big deal... She doesn't care. He old one barely lit up at all anyway...
Thanks again for the info.
