cd player cut out

so everything has been going fine with my kicker cvx's... at first my subs cut off and on but when i turned the bass knob down and the gain up a tad, everything seemed fine. recently, everytime i play a cd with the subs goin, the cd cuts in and out and skips really bad. its usually during the most bassiest parts of the songs but it wasn't before and i played it all the same. i dont turn my HU up high i just have my bass control set for a lil extra bass so i can leave my volume lower on the HU. what could cause the cd's to skip. and it even on new ones so scratched cd's are not the problem

Do you have a volt meter of sorts? And also, remember what I told you about that bass knob? It'll still clip, regardless of your volume control. With clipping, you're going to have a nasty voltage drop, which will make your cd player skip and do all kinds of weirdness. With properly set gains, your system should wang. Not loud enough? Go bigger.

i really dont think its clipping though because nothing is turned up high...i couldn't turn it any lower without barely having any bass at all. i do remember everything you said in other posts though.. and the head unit is kinda cheap. its a pyle and its maybe 4 years old. im planning on getting a new one soon as soon as work starts picking up..im just so confused with my system everything goes wrong!!!

You'll have to hook a voltmeter up and see what the voltage is dipping to when it hits.. if it's low enough, the voltage to your deck is affected, then it'll cut out. You can either upgrade the power and ground wires to your deck (might do the trick) or you'll have to improve part of your charging system... alternator... battery...

Or get a cap to help smooth out the voltage drop.

well the boxes are too small for one thing so im pushin the amp a little hard i think to get the power i wanna hear. i am in the process of getting custom boxes made that meet the box spec requirements for this sub. i am also getting t 2 farad cap so i think that should do the trick. do you recommend putting polyfill in the box or does that even help???

I recommend no capacitor, i'd do the Big 3 first (check wysiwig's sticky), and before posting any more in audio and electronics, check my sticky too.

ok. well one more thing. why wouldn't you recommend a cap? why not do the big 3 and a cap

and couldn't i just run a wire from my alternator to my chassis? i heard that works just as good? true or not?

90% of the time with a 3rd gen j-body the 'cutting out' issues with aftermarket head units is because the stock wiring blows goats.

BOTH of my cav's did this with 4 different deck's. ran a direct power wire (with fuse) from the battery and found a nice beefy ground and re-did it as well. not only did it fix the problem indefinitely the sound was clearer, cleaner and crisper. it was almost like hooking up an amp to the speakers vs just a head unit in difference.

You look so much cuter with something in your mouth.
