Help selecting amp and sub

Hi,

I got a 2000 sunfire coupe. I have a crappy stereo: indianapolis IN-600 (but it reads cd/mp3, usb, sd cards and aux). I am trying to get a sound system together, nothing fancy. The first thing I found recommended in this site were good front door speakers. So I just installed some 6.5 kickers which sound great (door panels were cut). The guy at the shop told me the next things should be 2 subwoofers and 1 amp. however I dont want to buy them from him cuz its expensive: 600 dls total. I will try to find these items in a shop that supplies (sells but does not install) this type of things and they are usually half price or so. But I dont know anything about ohms, watts etc.

Could someone plz recommend me what are the characteristics and brands of the amp and subs that better suite my needs? I dont want a very loud system so that everyone in the street hears Im coming or whatever, I just want some nice not too loud sound inside the car and I definitely like hearing clear low notes.

Another shop wanted to sell me a Sony explode 500watts amp in 100 bucks what u think? I would like to spend around 300 dls for everything (amp + sub). Also do I need 2 subwoofers or will one be enough??

Thank you and regards from Mexico.

if u dont want to spend to much and dont want crazy loud. sony is the way to go. also mtx would be good. one sub or 2 is ur personal preference.

When ur looking at subs powere always look at the rms(continuous) power. peak means nothing. alot of people think cuz the have a 1400 watt watt xplod, that there system is amazing when in reality the sub is only pushing 150 continuous.

with ohms, im not sure on the whole ohms law and whatnot but when looking for an amp, make sure that the amp u buy is whatever ohm stable the sub is. Exampl: if u buy a sub that is 300 rms 600 peak at 4 ohms, make sure u find an amp that is doing around 300 rms at 4 ohms. u wanna get the best sound possible out of ur system.

Its not a whole lot of info, theres a lot more detail but thats the basics. g/l with ur buy

Come up to the united states and get some real gear, then go back.

Going to the US is no problem at all but still that wont help me decide what to choose. I have been reading about amps but I still dont want to buy the wrong amp/sub combination.

Any more opinions? Thnks in advance

How much total in US dollars are you looking to spend?

For an amp and 2 subwoofers I am willing to spend $400 usd. If just one subwoofer is enough and I can save some money then ok. I dont want a crazy sound I just want a good sound for an average person that likes to hear defined "bass".

For a decent budget sub, you can find alpine type-r's online for around $125-150 shipped. That's the 12" 4 ohm DVC. That leaves you about $200 to find an amp that'll do 500+w at 2 ohms, and $50 for box materials. The Alpine MRP-M650 you can find for pretty much that exact price.

Then you need to get wiring...

Those prices are online prices...for example, the retail on the sub is $230...you're best bet is to find somebody in the US who can purchase them for you and you pick them up.

Dude, all systems are loud. Come to the US and find a store and buy a set of subs in a box with a amp. Pep-boys has whole systems for around $250.00. That comes with box,2 subs, amp, and wiring kit. If u don't want alot of bass, just buy a cheap set of subs. Thats what I would do. That takes alot of balls to trust someone to order a system for u and u go and pick it up at there house. That pretty much says ur getting @!#$ out of the items u wanted. Well do what u want to.Just trying to help u out.

I didnt know they were already "kits" with subs and amps, except from the sony explode they sell at wallmart. The info I was looking for was like the one Lnhiv (DesertTuners) gave: this subs can work with this amp. I just read things and things about being stable at 2 or 4 ohms, watts etc and that is what I dont get. How do I know if this or that sub works at 2 or 4 ohms and so on .

Thanks everyone who has replied so far!
