ok so I recently aquired a 98 cavalier sedan 2200 3speed auto. Has power door locks/manual windows, and a fuse in the fuse spot for the factory alarm, but owner only gave me one regular key for the car. So does this mean it has the factory alarm and I can buy a remote at the dealer to work it, or do all these older cavs have the fuse/spot for it either way?? JW, would be nice to not have to install an aftermarket alarm like on my 05.
Oh, want to know this for a buddy too he bought a 99 BASE model with an alarm slot as well and same thing just one regular key from previous owner.
Drivers side in the trunk behind the carpet there will be a little black box with about 15 wires coming out of it if you have factory keyless. If you do, all you need is a replacement keyfob. then you program it.

problem is, if it goes off, how am i going to shut it off without a remote? lol minus disconecting the battery wich might not work so well.
often, you just put the key in the door and turn it back and forth
only car thats ever worked on that ive seen was a diamante, not a j, but idk maybe im wrong thanks for your ideas though, im just scared it wont shut off lol
I work in an install bay, we do these all the time.
If it does go off and the door trick doesn't work, it'll turn off by itself after a minute or two
also why would it have an alarm fuse if it didnt have an alarm, doesnt make much sense to me, I would hink it would have to have an alarm, but ive had the battery disconected multiple times etc, never had an alarm go off, and when I lock the door by the key or switch on the door the headlights dont flash etc. think ill try that idea tomorrow though.
It's possible that they just got a new door for the fuse panel and just filled in the blanks, even though no circuit might even be there.
theres metal contacts behind the 10amp fuse in that spot.
did you check behind the trunk carpet yet. on the drivers side. my 96 cavy sedan has factory keyless. i just dont use it. i have an aftermarket alarm.
yes, I checked this morning, no box underneath the carpet in the trunk, so I guess no alarm and no keyless entry just power door locks
