I'm looking at either the pioneer avic d3 or the avh p4000 for a 2004 cavalier. The factory radio is currently installed. i am pretty sure that the factory radio is a double din, but when i looked on crutchfield it said that the pioneer would not fit. However, i went to two different car audio places where i live and they both said that it would fit. I am just wondering if anyone has any expirience with this. And if it does fit, i know that i would need the wire harness (I think the $100 one to keep chimes) and an antenna adapter, but i don't know about the mounting kit. Any help is greatly appreciated.
yea it will fit no problem...and since neither of those units have a motorized face you wont need to cut anything out either.....
I was thinking about one of those Pioneer AVH P4000s... anyone have experience with them? How's the iPod controls?
I saw one up at the local best buy, but of course they don't have any accessories hooked up to it to see how well it works lol
The AVHP4000 is basically the D3 w/o the navigation. Obviously looks, menus, and some other small details are going to be different, but as far as functionality, almost identical. And if you're thinking about a D3, might have trouble finding them unless you can find a place that has some left over. They have been discontinued. The replacement, the F series, should be out within the next few months.
thanks for all the help. I found the wire hareness on ebay alot cheaper. I think i'm gonna go with the AVH p4000. Do you know if you can connect an ipod directly into it with a CD-I200 cable. I want to be able to control my ipod through the head unit, and i didn't know if i need an extra ipod interface or something to do that
no that cable will work. And I cant remember off hand, I think its the 5th gen ipods or the newer ones can be controlled just using USB.
I'll just bumb my old thread instead of making a new one.
So i have the aVh-p4000, and i am in the process of installing i took apart the dash, and I have the GM Class II Data bus Interface. I am following the guide here
http://members.shaw.ca/johnz24/howto/7/7.html for installing my radio, and I am unsure about where it says to tap onto a wire that carries +12V. Do i have to tap into a wire, or will the wire harness just take care of that?
the harness should take car of that....the only wires that will not be controlled by the harness are the remote wire(needed for an amplifier install) and of course your antannae wire...if you buy the scosche kit from wal mart, its like 30 bucks adn it keeps the chimes...if you get that kit its basically just match the wires and tie em together...from there its just plug and play...good luck
there is no need to disable the air bags...you shouldn't have to anyway....just don't touch it or any wires around it
I'll be installing the AVIC-D3 in my girlfriend's 04 Cavalier on the 28th of this month. I'll let you know how it turns out.

the only thing you should have to cut out for a double din to fit is the plastic in behind the radio, motorized or not.
