my brother was doing cable managment in the trunk and he says there was a spark that shocked him and now my amp wont turn on
anyone have this problem? fuses arent blown either.
I know u stated it yet u have fuses on the amp, in the main amp power feed, on the back of the head unit. did he reconnect it right?. may just be a nice paper weight mine overheated one day and toast.
do you have a fuse on the power wire to the battery terminal, if so that fuse may be blown
fuse to battery isnt blown and it didnt overheat i had it bumping for like five minutes then shut it off and it only got a little warm
im hoping its a short somewhere
what amp are you using and what subs do you have. are the subs impedance wired lower than what the amp is stable at?
"I did it because I wanted to see what it would look like. You should be greatful that I even told you that it would look good. If your to dumb to use photoshop and change the color of your own car then you don't need to see it changed. I'm not going to give my work away. I'll sell the pic to you though for $15."-Adam Kalin
^^JBO is about not being that guy
cheap magnum kit from circuit city it worked fine just my brother was re aranging the wires and he "says" it sparked when he plugged the positive cable in and ever since then it stopped working. he also managed to rip the remote wire out also during the aranging i hooked that back up and it still doesnt work. how can you test an amp to see if its dead?
also i get power through the cables, but the remote wire only sees .02v? isnt this supposed to be 12v as well? should i try plugging it in somewhere else besides the 12v remote line?
i dont know too much about the remote wire, try using the amp on a reg power source not using the remote see if it works, seems like its fried, whats the max power output on it?
well im just gonna take it back and get bazooka subs
man were those loud though i miss them already
also can to high of guage wire blow it? i was running it on 4 gauge and the speakers are rated at "500rms" probably 250x2 if that but they were still loud none the less
Two wires would have sparked, either the POWER or REMOTE.
->If it was the power, you probably popped the fuse under the hood, have you checked that one? Here's a quick test, take the power wire for the amp and very quickly brush it by some bare metal (or your ground if it's not plugged into the amp), if it sparks then you know that isn't blown.
->If it was the remote, you may be in more trouble since if you blew that circuit in the deck you'll have to rewire it so that the remote wire takes it's power from the accessory circuit instead. ---- Plug your amp in, but leave the remote wire unplugged, take a small wire and attach it to the (+) and (remote) screws on the amp, if the amp turns on, then you know you're not getting voltage from the remote circuit.
Make sure that everything is plugged in right, I've seen people switch the (+) and (remote) wires by mistake which causes problems like blowing fuses or shutting off at mid to high volumes.
But it sounds like your remote wire is fudged.
so i like bridge the wire from remote on amp to + on amp and then turn car on? and if it turns on then where do i run the remote wire to?
just went out to try it. unplugged everything but ground and power. ran a cable from remote on amp to + on amp attached neg on batt turned on car. nothing
so is it totally gone? no fuses were blown tested them with voltmeter
yes i would say something inside the amp blew or cooked....
once you get new stuff, take that amp aprt & look inside for an inline audio fuse or fuseable link type connection inside the amp & it may be fixable from there
otherwise if it has warranty, take it back, otherwise your brother owes you an amp....

did you look inside the fuses (they are usually see through) and you can see if their blown, I have had a blown fuse that shows power in the past , it could have a strip of metal stuck to it and show volts. You said you checked the fuse on the amp right? Check the manual and see if maybe there is some kind of internal fuse in the amp.
