OK. I have a 2005 factory cav cd/mp3 stereo. I want to ad an amp in the trunk without changing out my head unit. I am told there is some sort of kit that gets the signal from rear speakers to feed into the amp, so that the sub will work. Can anyone direct me to a website withinformation on how that works and how to do it?
Thanks
eBay Line Level Converter
You need a Line Level Converter. It is a tiny box. The wires "tap into" your 6x9 wires on each side of the rear deck while the speakers are still hooked up. The box converts the signal into rca jacks that you will then be able to connect to your amp with a set of rca cables.

yeah check your local audio dealer it wires to your 6x9s and converts you signal so all u have to do is plug your rca cable into it and then to the amp hope this helps the little box is pretty cheap like 20 bucks or so. then PLAY IT LOUDLY.it is much easier to just replace the head unit then u wouldn't have to worry bout it.
do what mennitti said.......
I agree completely that the line-level converter unit is the proper item for this (while a new deck is still a good idea) -- however I have found that some amplifiers are good at handling line output unmodified. I had a Pioneer 4-channel amp that spent several years with my brother, and then another few months with me wired directly to the rear speakers with a hacked-up set of RCA cables. I'm not endorsing this approach, but if the gain on the amp can be set low enough it may be an option.

I live in a high crime area, and want to look 100% stock....so i must keep my stock cd player....I will not be buying an aftermarket deck

go there, buy the scosche line out converter. you tap into you rear speakers and cponnect them to that, (REALLY simple) then run rcs out the front of the LOC and into your amp, done, i just did it, it actually took less than 20 minutes.
Do you have the factory premium audio system? I am wanting to do the same thing, but am wondering about the signal from the factory amp, my rear speakers are bi-amplified.

yes...me too, came to like 24 bucks after shipping i think.
Does your Amplifier have "HIGH LEVEL INPUTS"? If so you don't need a Convertor.

yes good point, check this first before you buy a LOC!
