This is my first post inquiry here, and I've looked around, so apologies if this has been done before.
In addition to the interior lights I've already installed in my '01 Z24, I plan on grabbing two orange 9.5" LED flex strips from oznium.com, one for each side, to place behind the front wheels as turn signals. There's a diagram on the forums there:
I'm not a wiring noob, but does anyone have an idea where the best place to tap into these wires would be in the Cav that would be the least amount of work, keeping in mind that they need to be run to the sideskirts? The resistor and diode allows the LED strip to function as a running lamp when the turn signal is not activated. If it's too much trouble I'm content with simply hooking it up to the turn signal and not having to worry about guessing and testing resistors and the extra wiring associated with it. All I really need is the left and right turn signal wire, the running lamp is just extra.
Thanks in advance.
I would say the front bumper sidemarker lights. That's about as close as you'll get for what you need

Thanks for the reply. If I find the wire going to the front turn signals will there be three wires, a running, signal, and ground?
nvm got it all figured out thanks
Make sure to post pics up when you're done with this, I'm very interested to see it!

Yeah... I popped the hood and looked at the headlight area... without taking out the assemblies those wires were nowhere to be found. I then found a writeup on installing Toyota tails and so I ended up splicing out of the green wire from the right tailight, and the yellow wire from the left taillight to get the signal, and either of the brown to get a 12V signal for the running lamp. I'll run the three of them to relays so the turn signal flasher doesn't slow down. I have some lights along the right and left side interior that would be cool to connect to the signals as well. I'm excited about this install, but it's 15 degrees below zero and snowing heavily, and I have tests, so I probably can't get on it till next week. I'll be sure to get a vid up if it ends up working.
I did it in the interior at least... a quick vid is
here. Exterior to follow on both sides once I figure out the problems mentioned
here.
All I could read in that other forum that you were having problems with was the dimming issue right? Whoever told you to use a resistor was right. Now, as far as how you would wire it in, it could just go in-line to the circuit with your park lamps, but I'm not sure if placement matters (whether or not you'd wire it in before the diode, or after, next to the other resistor.
wire the resistor on the ground side of the LED strip. that should dim the LED's, but leave the parking lights at normal brightness.

I spliced into the brown wire going to the taillight to get the running lamp, but I just realized that they light up when the brake is pressed as well... it'll take a while to sort out. I think the only way to do it is to take the turn signal wire from one of the front signals, as those are obviously independent of the brakes. It'll be a while before I can work on it though, as I lost power steering today and gotta take it in tomorrow for service.
