I just got an alpine deck for my 02 cav. and i spent last night and got it all wired up to the connector. but here comes the weird part. the deck works great when the is in aux just before start. but when i start the car the cd player shuts off. and stays off. what i have is just the CDA-9883 apline, and the scosche GM2000 wiring harness that has the little boxy thing to keep you door chimes and junk. does any one have any clue what the hell is going on.
I fear taking it to best buy where i got the cd player because i know they will say that it won;t work without the hundred dollar wiring harness. i am open to suggestions at this point.
Where do you have the red wire run to? It needs to be hooked up to an ignition source.
i had the wires connected to the wiring harness that i got. i wish it was somthing as simple as having the wrong wires connected but i checked and double checked everything, before completing the install
i thought that it might be a switching 12v thing but when i was leaving work today i hopped in the car started it and the cd player worked fine. there is a part of me the regrets switching from pioneer to alpine.
I think with the GM harness that you speak of, you have to hook the red wire up to an actual acessory circuit, because the 2001s and up had a data line to turn them on. Try attaching red and yellow on the alpine wiring kit, and see if the radio turns on all the time. If so, that's your problem.
whats teh question can you read have to do with the info he has given?

He bought the harness that provides an accessory wire and it telling him he needs to run another
The red wire is not accessory. Accessory stays on with a Cavy even with the ignition off. Wire the red wire from the Alpine harness to the ignition fuse in your fuse box with a fuse tap and everything will play. Also, if you don't have onstar, you could ditch that harness and go to walmart to get a simple scosche gm035 (eight bucks)...you lose chimes but, are you really gonna use them that much?
