Laptop Riding Shotgun
Monday, November 05, 2007 6:30 PM
So, I am getting a Bluetooth GPS module, and I'm going to use my laptop as a gps Nav.

I want to mount my laptop on some type of stand in the area of the passengers seat/dash area.

Any Ideas? Im thinking of a pipe mounted setup with a quick release mounted between the floor and passenger seat bracket,.

What do you think? Any better ideas?

For anyone who cares:
GPS
Software or Other.....(If its.....errrm....bit torrent)

I have 65 dollars that *must* be spent on a gps. (Long story)

Im more or less looking for a fun thing to do, maybe some war driving?

Either way, This is a fun thing to do, not Necessarily the most useful you know?

Eventualy, I want an in dash LCD head unit, that i will use as a screen for the gps through laptop. But thats mucho money I don't have!

we've used a laptop stand like the ones that hospitals use that can mount to the wall. either that or i built a base for mine out of steel and bolted pipe connectors to it. then used straps to hold the laptop to that

Spork, Thats my plan, wanted to verify it has been done.

Drop Top: The Bluetooth GPS receiver connects wirelessly to my built in bluetooth in my laptop. The software recognizes this and it uses the gps to track it. If you need more info, email me. If your going for cheep, i can help you out

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

Ok, ill do that.

Any Ideas on making it adjustable? where could i find a "swivel" or something that adjusts the tilt forward and back.

I know that may be hard to picture, i can't think of a better way to describe it

You might be able to modify a mount for a telescope tri-pod... but I don't know if it would be sturdy enough.

All the cheap ones on ebay use gas pipe. I went to the hard wear store and picked up some for a fraction of the cost, and now i just need to bold it to the floor. I may mount a steel flat bar under the passenger seat bracket between it and the floor, that way i wont need to bolt through the floor and deal with rust. It's been a busy couple weeks and haven't gotten a chance to do it.
