I've searched through the forums but could only find how to set up a push button start which is sort of but not really what I want.
My idea is to have a swicth in an undisclosed location that needs to be pushed in order for the starter to do its thing when the key is turned to start (not just on). So if someone was to turn the key to start nothing would happen unless they first were holding the switch. I am guessing I would have to connect the switch to a wire to break the circuit (the swicth being what closes it) to do this but I have no clue which wire i would do this with. Remember I want it to be so the switch HAS to be held in order for turning the key to start to do anything. Hope someone out there can help.
on the steering column there's a big yellow wire that comes from the ignition switch that is your starter signal wire. It actually goes out to the nueatral safety switch or clutch switch accordingly. That would be the wire you need. Your car however does have a passive anti-theft system that does more for you then what that switch would do. Not only that but if anyone was to be detered by that little switch they more then likely would know to look for a break in the yellow wire.
hmm I do see your point about someone knowing about the wire, even if the switch was out of site entirely. I was actually given another option of extra security not to long after posting my question, so I'll take a look at the pros and cons of each and come up with a decision. Thanks for the info Craazy, its much appreciated
Sorry for the double post I kind of thought of this too late and I guess you can't edit posts here. Anyway, if I do go the route of my original idea, am I going to run into any problems with the anti theft system? IE: car only running for a few seconds then stalling or whatever the anti theft does to the car. I read in the threads for push button starts that a bypass module was needed if you wanted a pure push button set up, but since this isn't what I am doing would I still need one or do I have nothing to worry about when it comes to my plan? Thanks again for any help that comes my way
If you're only doing a starter interupt you wouldnt have any problem with the PATS. As far as the bypass modules , most anyplace that sells remote starters will have the bypass. It wires into the little wires on the lock cylinder that read the key.
thats all I needed to know, thanks again man. Now to get to work on it
