on speakers there is one small and one big termial.... is the larger of the 2 surposed to be the positive?
Easiest way to tell is use a 9V battery.
Hook one lead to the +'ve on the battery, other to the -'ve. If the speaker moves out, then the lead that's hooked to the +'ve is the positive speaker lead. If the speaker moves in, then you've got the negative speaker lead hooked to the +'ve on the battery.

actually easiest way to determine: larger terminal is always positive....lol
My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again
Ya, it's always positive
Now, if your speaker had even sized terminals, then the battery trick would work.
thats what I thought but its better to double check then do it twice hahaha
thanks
dark blue is positive light is negative....brown is positive and yellow is negative.

I always thought that red was positive and black was negative? Is that not true?

on a side note.. does anybody know where you can find at least a 12 gauge connector for the smaller (negative) terminal? i cant stand having to go off my 10 guage speaker wire to a PUNY 16-22 guage wire just to hook up to the smaller terminal. ive tried wiring up the 10 gauge by just wrapping it around and such but it always just falls off. never understood why these IDIOTS give you such a small terminal to play with.
you could make the 10 gauge wire just smal enough to work...maybe I don't knwo i'm dumb

they terminals are sized for what they need. u dont need to run 10 gauge to your speaker terminals so they dont make them for 10 gauge wire. try soldering the wire to the speaker.

Why the hell are you running 10g speaker wire?
For door speakers 16-22g wire is just fine. No problems with stepping down from the 10 to a 16
I mean seriously 10g is wayyyyy over kill
Hell 16 or 18 is more than most need for simple door speakers

wtf is wrong with overkill?
honestly... the way i see it is this, just my 6x9's are rated at like 260 watts each (i think) (pioshiit 4-ways), if they can REALLY take that much power the bigger wiring would be needed IMO. now.. i can only go by my experiences, ive used the smaller gauge stuff hooked up to my amp to my 6x9's and they clipped much easier than when i had the 10-12 gauge wiring hooked up to them.
my stereo also sounded much cleaner when i ran all new 12 gauge wiring from my HU to all of my speakers.
jason-i didnt think of soldering them-this certainly answers my question, thanks a lot man-i'll get right on it.
I using 10 gauge for my subs but thats with 2400 watts of power
