I'm going to be installing an oem cd player into my girlfriends cavalier. What kind of security features will I have to deal with?
Any help would be appreciated.

Dealer's going to have to do that one with the tec II.
If its an ebay purchased HU will a bill of sale be sufficient to prove that its not stolen?
Yes and no, hows to say the person your buying it from didn't steal it....goes with anything on ebay.
If the previouse owner didn't activate the theft lock on the stereo you shouldn't have any problems. Technically once you remove a stock stereo the AC Delco theft lock II (or whatever its called) should kick in, and if you try re-installing it, you'll have to enter the code for it to work. My theft lock on my stock cd-player hasn't been turned on and it's been in and out of my car 3 times with no problems. It should work in another car too. Just install the new oem stereo in your car, and if it askes for the teft lock code, take it to GM (tell them you replaced your car battery), and that you don't know the code (previouse owner must have programmed it), and they should help you out.

2000+ DO NOT HAVE THEFT LOC - A dealer will have to do it.
I sold mine on eBay when I 1st got my car and I just gave the guy I sold it to my VIN# and that is all he needed to have it put in his car.
Crap, GM likes to change a lot of stuff from year to year. My bad. Just remember, sometimes you gotta lie to the parts guys
2000+ have Theftlock alright... but it's a function of the deck programming, not a code that you can self-program.
GM dealers can re-flash.
I've disconnected my battery on numerous occasions and never once had any radio issues, theftlock or otherwise.

That's because the radio is tied to the body control module (BCM) in your car. You can take out the battery and run without it, it doesn't make a lick of difference.
Now, if you take the radio from a different car... and put it in yours... it won't work until it's reflashed by a GM dealer using a Tech 2 diagnostic tool.
you know ive put in two different stereos in my 2k1 sunfire and they all turned right on. no reprogramming. so you may get lucky.
My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again
is this a same issue on a 96 stock radio? i have a 96 ragtop cav i purchased(with no title and some water damage) and now im parting out and i want to put the 96 radio in the 95 im repairing
the radio works right now in the 96 but will i have an issue as soon as i go to swap it?
95-99 you only have to worry about personalized theftlock codes. That's when you dial in your own secret code to lock it. (there is a way around this, if it's locked and you don't know the code... the instructions are in the faq... so is all this info... but no one reads it.... I digress...)
00-05 you need to visit the GM dealer.
