Need fan relay help
Wednesday, June 13, 2007 4:38 PM
I've google searched for a day and came up with mixed results so I'm looking here for any help. I want to connect 2 computer fans to cool my amp. From what I understand I should use a relay for the remote turn on so I don't blow my headunit but from what I've read it shows to connect relay to power wire also and to use same size wire but I run 4 ga so how can that be. I've also seen to run each remote wire after the relay to a fuse then to whatever you need to switch on, but do you really need another fuse involved for the amp. Any help or shortcuts out there?

Grab a distribution block to "split" your 4AWG wire into a 4AWG wire and a 16AWG wire or something.

I also have a cap connected , would I be able to do without the distribution block by just running smaller wire from postive cap terminal to relay

sure. All you're trying to do is get 12V into a small enough wire.

Good, also would I be able to use 16 ga speaker wire to conduct or should I get like a single strand auto wire or something else?

I'm sure speaker wire would be fine. If anyone disagrees please speak up, I'm just going off of 3 years high school electrical so I'm not that skilled
