Is my amp fried?

Well it sure smelled like it.

Coming home from work I put my cooler in my trunk because I had to bring 3 other people home, and I took a turn sharply which tipped my cooler (with melted ice inside) right on top of my amp.

Bass just stopped, turned off the headunit, and when I got home there was smoke coming from the sides of the amp.

I got as much water off the surface as I could and havn't tried it yet, disconnected it from the battery and am going to let it dry out for a couple days.

Is there even a slight chance of it still working?

the chance is slim...odds are very good that it is toast..smell it. if it smells smoked it prolly is. otherwise just hook it back up and see if it turns on, if it goes into protect mode then its shot. get the warranty card out and send the amp in.

I have devised a relative formula for such an occasion, it's based on the frankenstein quote "Fire BAD!"
Water + electricity = bad
Water + hi voltage/current = very bad
Amp = hi voltage/current
water + audio equipment = bad
water + expenisve audio equpment = very bad
amp = expensive audio equipment
I think I have a sollution... Water + amp = very very bad.

Yup, if my calculations are correct, this is a very very bad situation...

Yeah well I let it dry out and plugged it all back up.

Lets just say I could have sent some smoke signals to my neighbors.

yea, the "Water BAD!" theory prevails, sorry to hear about the amp. maybe they should make an amp that uses heat pipe technology over all the components inside to an external heatsink and encase the whole thing in the heatsink so it will be effectively water proof. Hmm, invent that and you might strike it ritch. lol.

My RCA in on my amp got slammed, no clue how. Lifted pads and blew resistors and a cap. All it would put out was straight DC I fried 1 sub. blew an amp. not a good day.
