Did a search and did not find any matches, so here goes. I'm going to either build or have a custom sub-woofer enclosure built and was wondering if anyone has the dimensions of the trunk? I'm trying take up as little space as possible as I would still like to use my trunk as a trunk and not just filled with speakers. I still haven't decided on 10" or 12" subs
oh no not this again.

From your comment Viper98912, it appears that this question has been asked over and over again. However, as I have stated..."Did a search and did not find any matches...". Sorry if it has and if so, please direct me to there. It's no big deal, I can take the measurements myself...but, if someone else has already done this...thought they might like to share. I would do the same.
i'll put it to you this way.
the cavy trunk, and pretty much ANY trunk you will ever see, is not square. there are certain things in certain places that get in the way, and there are lots of curves and stuff. depending on your air space requirement and what little goodies you wanna put in your box, NO measurement that i give you is going to work for you, because you are building just that, a CUSTOM box for YOURSELF, and so, YOU need to do the measurements for yourself so you can get an idea of what you're going to place where.

go to lowe's buy a tape measure, we sell them for like $5....then start measuring and drawing out......it also helps to have some spare cardboard lying around to cut around contour's and stuff like that.
if you are going to HAVE someone else build it...then they measure it.

I might be new here, but I'm not stupid...I was only looking for basic dimensions of the trunk since all Cavaliers have the same trunk. Of course I know that the air space requirements depend on the speaker and whether or not it's sealed or ported...etc.... BTW..."Sam Howe"... already have the tape measure...LOL...and as far as the cardboard is concerned...that is exactly what I was going to do, discarded too much MDF in the past
I'll post my measurements just in case in the future, someone asks the same question.
Maybe I posted this in the wrong forum?
If you tell us what subs you have, if you wanna go sealed or ported, we can get you dimensions for a box. You said you don't want it to take the whole trunk.

the dimensions I used for my false floor was 36w by 34 deep with about 14 inches safe clearance, thats not counting the areas in the back where it gets wider

Just open the trunk fold down the seat and measure the openings and go from there. With a little cutting you can shoe horn a 33x16.75x28" box in there thats roughly 8.75 square feet to work with. Use that and go from there.
Thanks Rodimus Prime and Andrew Masi...That's exactly what I was looking for, just a estimate to start with...Thanks again.
I had a feeling that someone was going to come back with the "lazy" comment. I'm not lazy, just thought if someone had already done this...they wouldn't mind sharing the dimensions. If I had, I would share...and I will once I'm finished. I'm still going to measure myself, but it is good just to have an general idea of the dimensions. It's almost like..."Since I had to go through the trouble, so you should also."

Thank you very much for posting that information. You helped me a great deal. I've been trying to sneak a tape measure to my gf's trunk /w her keys when she's not looking... very hard to do. I've also tried to get a car salesperson on my lunch break to show me the trunk of a car to no avail, only new cavies on the lot i checked.
I would like to just say that there are 2 things wrong with what everyone else has said.
#1: No I can not just walk over and measure the trunk, it is not here... it is about 30 mi away, and it would look VERY suspicious if I were to pry it open and measure it. And it could leave marks
The vehicle is not mine, it belongs to someone that may get a system installed for their bday.
#2. Even if it was there, i would hope someone would post this somewhere, even if they had to measure it themselves and post it. Now anyone thinking about putting a system in can just search for this information and have it handy. This information should be in the FAQ that I read through.
#3. I did do a search, and this is the only thread I came up with. The forums must have deleted the "om my god not this again" threads.
PS. To anyone who says those measurements will not work for me or anyone else... i believe almost anyone that ask the trunk size is looking for two things: the size of the opening, and the max size of a box you can fit inside the trunk. I would hate to have to BUILD A BOX INSIDE THE TRUNK, and make the spare tire useless...
Also, to anyone that even mentions speaker sizes and their airspaces... above person i'm sure knows he can't just build a box to your specs. ... it helps to know how big of a box you CAN build and FIT into the car when shopping for speakers, i bought two kicker 12" cvrs (buy one get one free) to find out the minimum trunk space of 1.75cu ft squared was TO MUCH to fit through the opening in a car. Had to return them for 10"s subs. The box will fit inside the trunk, just not INTO it.
yeah no shiz and wtf is that guys deal? wtf is he even talking about? the new poster that started this again.
im lost, is it the person that first posted this and just now came back two years later or what?
but for any lazy @!#$ that searches for measurements for his trunk and comes across this thread again, heres my answer:
get up out of your chair, get in your car, go to a store, buy a measuring tape, pop trunk if you have a popper if not get out of car, measure trunk....i think i just got dumber....
BTW... I didn't reopen this thread. I did measure (I'll try to find and will post), but ended up just going with a standard rear facing sealed angled box.
