My sister is driving my old 2000 z24 and the car will not start, don't have warning lights on dash. The last time it did this is when the oem radio became disconnected from the harness in the truck. we had a lot of rain recently and think the radio managed to get wet and have a short in the computer on it. we tried to move the radio to the front thinking it could be the harness..well its not. Is there any way to bypass this to get the car to atleast run. The cluster is just a read only device as i hope being the cluster going out wouldn't cause a no start and the dimm lights work on it.

i had the same problem with my 2000 z24 but it was the trans because of the aftermarket radio in the 2000 z24 models the radio has codes for it in the obd2 computer when not installed or no radio is in you can have miner problems like dash lights wont work or door ding-er wont work but with mine i put in a Sony explode aftermarket radio 20 min later check engine light and no trac light came on and i coould only drive in 2Nd amco trans charged me 75$ to fix it. it was radio related. the z24 year 2000 are the only models that do that it end-end up short circiting trans solenoid 1-2 ,2-3 and 3-4. so the only thing i can say is try to hook up the stock back into the car then take off the battery cabels for 10 sec to reset the comp and try it then if that don't work then try to find a short in the wire you can not put in a radio from another type car it has to be a stock from 2000 z24 or you'll confuse your comp i have my old stock i can send it to you if you e-mail me at lambofgod1128@yahoo.com with an address, i finally got my system put in after 600$ of repairing so skip what i did and use an extra fuse holder for just an aftermarket radio 3 mos and no problem's!

I have the factory radio bypassed in the trunk but i belive it got wet some how. I'll email you

I've run my car without the factory deck in it since I got it in 01 and yes its an 00 z24. I have never had a check engine light come on for some bs reason like that. According to Crutchfield the only thing you loose is the door chime when you take out the factory deck. IDK, I think I would think about other issues before I would say its the deck.
