I had an idea instead of covering my new box with carpet, can I cover i with body filler and paint it? I want it to have a nice smooth, glossy look to it.

fiberglass resin. dont do body filler you will hate yourself and all the hours you put into it just for it to crack and look like poopy. give her a good sheen of fiberglass resin sand smooth and paint... its not going to be a quick and easy process, lots of long flat surfaces that u need to sand perfectly smooth.

On the other hand....you have other fingers.

It can look good if done properly.
But be prepared for alot of sanding and getting everything perfectly smooth. Gloss shows every single imperfection, unevenness/shadow etc.

I agree...the bass will just crack it...

bass, heat fluctuations, difference between body filler and wood, flexing, expanding... lots more than just the music will crack his origional idea... like i said, and unholy said, LOTS of sanding involved... lots of headaches because you are talking about large flat surfaces that you want completely flat before painting... if u get ur hands on some good fiberglass resin and lots of sand paper and spare time, it can look real good. otherwise its gunna look like the ocean durring monsoon season

only problem with that is fiberglass resin isnt strong. it only gets its strength from adding mat. so i wouldnt do just resin. id personally use something like a hard wood filler. sand it down and prime with good high build primer a few times. sanding in between each coat. MDF soaks up primer pretty good, so u tend to use quite a bit. auto primer is your best bet.

only thing i might consider other than a wood filler is possibly a duraglass/everglass type product.

They make primer for wood, it's more of a primer/sealer so you don't use nearly as much, and you can get that gloss look.

yup, the wood primer just gives it a base so it doesn't suck up your layers and seals it, then you spray on your covering and it'll look shiny.
