New Alpine Components...Where should they go?
Saturday, May 12, 2007 9:55 PM
So I just picked up some Alpine Components from a buddy. They are used, but in great shape! I was desperately in need of some components. I have a 15" Kicker L7 being pushed by a 12002 amp at 2 ohms. I estimate that its getting arround 700 watts RMS. It's loud as hell, Sounds pretty dece, but just desperately needed some mid-high range speakers. I Think these will do the trick, although I do not have the tweaters because my buddies car got broken into and his head unit and tweeters (LOL, I know who JUST takes tweeters?!?!) got stolen. Anyways, down to the point.

Specs:

ALPINE SPR-176A
200w Peak - 50w RMS
IMP. 4 OHMS SVC
6 1/2"

ALPINE SPR-136A
160w Peak - 40w RMS
IMP. 4 OHMS SVC
5 1/4"

1) Did I get a good deal paying $100 for the two sets of components ( - tweeters)?

2) What type of setup should I do with these speakers? (Remove factory speakers and put these four up front, put the 6 1/2's up front and 5 1/4's up front, etc...)

3) Should I get tweeters? (If so, what brand, model?)

4) Should my Alpine CDA-9855 head unit power these speakers good enough for a clean sound, or is a small amp a way better idea?

Thank you in advance!

Thanks guys, I was hoping for a cheaper response. lol. I guess I'll save for tweaters and an amp before installing them. Still need answers for Question #1, #2 and the last part of #3(what brand & model?)

Okay, here we go:

1) Yes, my friend works at a stereo shop and gets me stuff for cost + 5% and I would never get those two sets for that little. Great tweeters can be purchased cheap, I'll elaborate below.

2) I would put the 6.5" in the door panels and build some kick pods for the 5.25s (You'll need to know how to fiberglass, but judging from my thread, it sounds like you do)

3) I would buy tweeters, definately.
Check out this site for some "affordable" ones: http://www.partsexpress.com

4) Yes, but you will lost mid-bass.
