Started happening about 7 months ago. After about 30 minutes of driving the radio/cd sound stops for maybe a minute then comes back on for a few more minutes and will stop again. If I fold my back seat down to cirrculate the air a bit, it plays fine. I've had the amp for probably like five years and it always ran fine enclosed inside the trunk with a Pioneer P930 unit and started overheating when I put a cheap $70 CD Player in to hold me over until the Alpine 9835 that I'm using now, in which the amp does the same thing. It's the old school Rockford 400a4 pictured below. It's not in the Cavalier anymore and I don't have a cap or anything. Is this amp just getting old and it's time for an upgrade?? Like I said, if I fold my back seat down to let the hot air out, it still plays fine, but if I drive for 30 minutes or so with my back seat up, it'll start to overheat. Any ideas?
i'm suprised it hadn't overheated way sooner. Time for a new amp, or put a fan on the existing.
you could put a fan but i would just upgrade....or just ride with the seat down as much as possible
how is it wired in? is it set at a load unstable for it to operate?

z yaaaa, I'm not sure exactly how it's wired. I didn't change anything from the Pioneer to the Alpine decks, unless the Alpine deck by default has it running differently.
Well, the Alpine does run 4V preouts which I doubt the $70 one did.

Haha, true, I had to "Y" adapter the $70 one because it only had one set. They were probably 1 v if that. But the Pioneer Premier has 6v preouts I believe.
