amp cant handle sub or sub cant handle amp?

well i have a pioneer DEH-P6800MP head unit, pioneer speakers in the doors and in the rear deck, a 600w amp for my speakers.
and a 12 " pioneer ts-w3002spl, its 3000w max and 1000w rms, and to power it i got a hifonics brutus 1200w amp.

now i have all the subwoofer settings on my head unit set at zero, and i have a bass knob, when ever i turn the volume up pretty loud like past 50 with the bass knob up all the way or even if i turn the vloume up a little and try to turn the bass up, the protect light on the amp and on the bass knob comes on and the sub cuts out, and i have to turn the head unit off and back on for the sub to start working again,

so does this mean that my sub is to power full for my amp, or that my amp is to powerfull for my sub?

Definitely clipping. Keep the bass knob all the way off and set your gains properly and everything will love you long time.

It could be going into thermal protection. how did you set your gains?

sounds like he is trying to use the gain as a volume adjustment

He said the audio shop tuned it for him, I think the probably know what the gain knob is for.

originally it seems as the shop did set it, however he decided after disconnecting th battery that he needed to play with it FWR.
as far as the audio shop knowing, never assume in any part of retail.

The J-Z, how aboot some clarification here?

I have 2 of the same subs, Is it a D4 or a D2? There a big difference With the D2 your going to need a amp that is 1000 watts RMS at 4ohm ,Or you need to find an amplifier that will run close to that power at 1 ohm. I have 2 Premier 5000SPL's Running both of my subs, If you can take the sub back and get the D4 then u will have way many more options in what amps you can run.

what amp he has really isnt the issue.

its sounds to me like a possible gain issue. also what is the bass knob? whats the specs on it. is it a bass boost? if so there could be a problem. or its it more a volume control like on the kicker amps.
