My Odometer is Glitching/ Blinking/ Not working.......Why?!?!
Saturday, May 12, 2007 5:12 PM
So my odometer has all of the sudden started to blink odd characters. It's not just part of the time, its all the time. What it does is just blink randomly and some times it will stop of characters that dont make sense and are not numbers. It never shows the actually milage. Is there anything I can do to trace down the issue? There is also another issue with my cruise control not working. May this be related or maybe caused by the odometer being screwy? Any advice on what to do would be great! Thanks!

Its a sort of oddball defect in the '99 up clusters. a connection inside them gets loose somehow and the lights go out. Give the top of your dash above the cluster a whack, that may get the odo to light back up.

No, they arent OUT, they just blink crazy sh!t. May still be a lose connection, but I doubt it...because normally a loose connection will not make odd characters, it would just blink on and off when there movement in the wiring like vibrations from driving and so on...

the odd characters are caused by the LEDs which comprise each number in the odo (7 elements each all 7 lit makes an 8) not illuminating. The crazy blinking just means the connection for those particularly elements is right on the edge of being bad, ie the tiniest vibration makes it lose then regain connection. About the only way to fix it that I know of is to replace the cluster. Dunno what a cluster costs for the 99's, but a 2k+ cluster goes for 30-50 bucks on ebay.
