I want to put in a 5-channel amp and before I go in and run wire, could someone give me some idea as to where GM ran the factory wiring? I'm looking for which panels or pieces of carpet I should pull up to give me easiest access to it. I'm also wondering where you guys run your power cables--4 AWG in this case--and interconnects as well.
In best case, I want to zip-tie my new speaker wire along the old stuff to try and keep a clean look and keep out any crosstalk from any near-by power cables. Also, am I correct in assuming that the best place to mount the amp would be in the trunk against the back seats?
Thanks for any suggestions.
Another thing I'd like to ask. If I decide to run power cable through the firewall by drilling a new hole instead of the existing grommet, where is the best place to drill through the firewall?
Go at the steering column for your power wire, just cut into the rubber. Keep power on the left, speaker and rca's on the right.
your best bet is to drill a hole any where that is open( you really don't wanna drill into anything) USE A GROMMET!!! another tip i have for you is to get some dynamat extreeme and put a small piece over the hole, grommet, and wire...it'll seal the hole up so no moisture gets in.
i am kinda not excited for you to do it your self. cause if you've never done anything like this then ur going to find it hard to do easily... best best is ask a friend you know for sure knows what he is doing..
cause its an easy way to really mess up your wiring , and cost will end up being more if you have to take it to someone who know what they are doing.
however if ur starting to feel smart, then you will use the grommet thats there and run your power wire first on the left side of your car, then run your RCA and the other premium speaker wire on the other.
and the last thing you should do is connect the power after the ground wire has been properly grounded.
good luck
