Hey guys.
I looked in a few threads, did some searching, but found nothing like this.
I'm having some problems. I wired up some neon lights, well, 2 black lights from StreetGlow(I think?), and 4 strobe lights in the trunk. Two weeks later.. they were both blown. Replaced the bulbs, and they worked.. .so I figured, there's no need in keeping them. Ripped them out.. there goes $40 bucks.
So, my question is:
What kind of light will withstand extreme vibrations? I don't always blast my stuff.. but it doesn't take long for W6's to beat out lights apparently.
Will LEDs withstand the vibration?
My sponsor has what he said "Cathode ray" tubes that were water resistant, blah blah blah, but he had no idea about the vibration. I'm guessing Cathode Ray tube lights are regular neons?
thanks...
I really just want to know before I buy new lights to make a new trunk setup.

Cathode tubes are similar to neon but not the same, but I don't think they would survive vibration. LEDs will handle almost anything you throw at them, you can smack em with a hammer and they'll probably work still.
ive got a set of cathodes inside my sub box. 2- 12" memphis's had em in there for 3 months and theyve held up fine.
bradsk88 - thanks. that's what i was figuring.
wojo - (no pun intended) - i think the 13.5"W6's hit a little harder than 2 12" memphis's.. the vibrations are pretty insane. Maybe i'm wrong.. becuase my boy's MTX 9500 10"'s are neck to neck with my W6's. what kind of db's do you hit? if you hit high 140's.. then I might be fine with cathodes.

neither of you are in the high 140s. if i was doing it i would use leds
"Neither of you are in the high 140's"
That's pretty intelligent of you to tell me I'm not in the 140's when you've never even seen my setup. And if you could read, he NEVER said he was.. What an ass.
yeah. You're right. I have no idea what a 140 is. I've never even had a termlab in my car. I don't know what a db meter is. God forbid 13.5" W6's with 1,000 watts in a fiberglass box, TUNED, is hitting 140's. I mean.. just god forbid.
Sigh. Some of you people. Thanks, but no thanks. Go play with yourself since you're SO hot @!#$.

Shut up stupid. Its not happening in our cars with that little power. 1000 watts is nothign nowadays. I have that much on tap for mids and highs. especially in a daily tuned setup. Tell me what makes it so tuned. Fiberglassed I'm assuming its sealed. Definitely not happening. Actually I just checked your page. its ported still isnt happening. well unless you count a 144.5 a high 140. that way you can round up to a 145 and well that can be rounded up to a 150. Next time maybe you should leave the k factor alone. or get the mic out the port. .
You act as if I said I have a high 140 at the headrest. You and your sorry assuming. Go away; I didn't ask for criticism. And no, it's not sealed. It's ported. Sigh.
Sure, 1,000 watts is "nothing". A lot of amps claim to have more - but never tap it. Ever heard of a volt meter? I run 1,200 watts to my highs and mids.. or atleast that's what the amp is rated at. Is it pushing half of that? Probably not. I KNOW my Rockford is pushing out over 900. W6 13.5's are "fully powered" around 600w-700w... which is their best power ranking. Mine are around 450W a piece.
What's a tuned box, eh? And how the hell is my box NOT tuned because of the port? LOL. Wow.
A tuned box has a lot of factors. mainly how "long" your port is. Longer ports = .lower tune, Shorter ports = higher tunes. Dimensions play a role in what your box is tuned at, as well.
So - Again - Tell me how I'm only pushing "144db" INSIDE my port? I guess because I don't stroke my penis with you in this forum, and rub your belly about how intelligent you are - there's no way I could possibly hit high 140's.. right? I guess because you claim to hit 150, nobody else in the world could ever even come close - right?
Whatever, superman. Keep on stroking your strong pimp hand.

You're @!#$ immature, Thom..
Saying things like "I guess because I don't stroke my penis with you in this forum" makes you look like your twelve and only furthers your little fight here.
you know i waited a little bit and I decided that it was worthwhile to post this.
Ok Mr High 140 Where did you your high 140 at? In the kick worthless. AT the head rest worthless. If it aint legal it doesnt count. You don't even want to know what mine does at either spot. (in the kick Is actually probably my lowest score. What does a volt meter have to do with anything in your post? Do you mean to check impedence? Or voltage? Yes I know the correlation between the two regarding amplifier output. Your amp is rated at 1200 watts? lol thats great. You using that ILS system? I wouldnt piss on a DHD amp if it was on fire. and definitely wouldnt put one in any car i would ever have to touch. im proud of your little rockford amp. thats cute? 900 watts. that isnt even the 4 ohm rating of one (of four) orion 2500ds I own. Let's not bring the .5 ohm power into it. Let's just say 14000 watts is only a couple recones away.
Box tuning has many variables besides port length. Since you brought it up just what exactly are your port specs and box specs. how are you only doing a 144 simple. It takes power to make numbers. 900 watts is not getting you anything in the upper 40s without a crx or explorer and one hell of a box. you would still be pressed to pull that off. you would need to fire forward and seal off from the trunk. Pressurizing as little cabin space as possible. Up firing is actually the least loud method in our cars. But since you are claiming it this can be really simple. Prove it. What show and sanctioning body did you pull that off in? If its legit there are a lot of NSPL guys who would love to know how you did it for the trunk class. (FYI the loudest trunk cavy did a 152 that i know of) Ive never claimed any numbers. Should it be a 150? Hell yes. With two 9515s 5000+ watts and a wall I'd hope so. I could care less what you think of me. Anyone who knows anything about this topic on here will already know whats going on.
I'm done. I asked a simple question, and you threw out some bull@!#$ "You're not hitting 140" - Whatever dude. I'm not even going to read, or respond to your posts. I just get sick and tired of asking simple questions, and people always beating people down. I asked what kind of light would withstand vibrations from two W6's... they're runing off about 450watts RMS each. What do YOU think they're going to hit in a tuned, ported box? You honestly think they'd hit 120 dbs or some bull@!#$? I don't know about you - but I have two Yellow tops, 1 capacitor, the big 3, and a 180amp re-built alternator - I don't HAVE an electrical problem. So whatever. Stroke yourself - flag your pimp hand - whatever you do. Thank you for answering my question, and being an ass about it at the *same* time.

I dont have an electrical problem either. trust me. I never said you werent hitting a 140. Thats about right. Now a high 140 on the other hand.....
IMO, you are both little 12 year olds for prolonging this argument. Just drop it already...WHo gives a $@#% what the other one thinks...It's the INTERNET
And yes, LED's will work fine.

I think Thomas Francisco got served in this thread. Not that it matters, but that's just my two cents.
And yeah. Use LEDs.
I think they both use there stereos because they need the ego boost cause they dont have enough where it counts . . . aka the little man
Whats up people?
LED's, you can get some cool prewired ones from oznium.com.
