Need quick amp/sub to headunit help

Alright, well last winter i was bought this brand new Insignia NS-C5111, and since i had everything to install it i did. well today a buddy of mine gave me a 10" kicker solobaric sub(old yes but works) and then a Bazooka 500 watt amp. both work. Anyway today i was wiring it up and i swear i have everything wired up cuz the 2-3 friends who have ran theres and know there stuff were trying to help and couldnt figure it out either. It came to the conclusion maybe it was my headunit not sending the signal through the rca cables to the amp.

Now the headunit has a wire coming out of it that is marked with "Subwoofer" but there is only one rca cable preout for it in that wire. Then on the back there are 6 more plugins
Front input
Rear input
Line output

so we tried all those and had no luck. does anyone have any ideas how i can get this damn amp to work? Only thing i could think of is get a 2-1 splitter and run it to that subwoofer preout? also on the headunit, yes i did turn the subwoofer on.

First off, does the amp get power? It should at least turn on.

Second, I've seen this on a few alpine decks. Like you said, you turned on the subwoofer function on the deck, but is there a volume level? If so, make sure it's turned up. The Line out should also work just fine.

try the system with another sub. i'm sure the sub works, but i've had this problem too. i just redid my setup and while i was building my new sub box i ended up pinching the negative wire going to the woofer cone. everything had power, but the sub did nothing, a quick solder and everything worked again.

The amp is getting power, the power light is Red instead of green tho
There is no sub volume, just went and checked and even broke out the manual.. doesnt tell how to hook amp up to cd player in manual either.

steven - i have no clue, the guys that were helping me i would figure know what they needed to do with gain and stuff, plus it was just working on my buddies car before i got it

sunflower - i dont have another sub i cant try right now...

hmm if the amp light is red then the amp isnt liking something, if you unplug the woofer does the amp light go green? if thats the case then the amp isnt liking the imdedence of the woofer. try unplugging things from the amp (remote, 12v, ground, RCAs) one by one untill the light goes green. if the amp stays red with just power and ground then id say its pooched.

its in protect mode most likely, which could mean 2 things....as sunflower said you got your sub wired wrong or the amp is a paper weight...

Well i found out what was wrong with the amp today. im just gonna quote from our local forum
manta wrote:Well some of you know that sunday i was having problems at carrols house getting my amp and sub to work. i thought it was my headunit, but after getting a adapter for that still no luck so i took it into the local Audio shop and had them bench test it. got it back today and he concluded what our problem was which it was gettin power but nothing from the RCAs.. so i came home and figured what the hell, mise take it and see what it looks like inside.. well i think i found the problem..

So what happened? The amp didnt play one beat while in my car but when jeff removed it, it worked fine.. So time for investigating!

That adjustment for level is broken.. and there is a rattling inside the amp. and look what i found

What do i think happened? well being where all the burntness is, thats where that broken peice of adjuster was moving back and forth at.. my guess is it was touching a power and ground side and shorted it out.. how.. well it coulda worked fine for jeff then being moved around so much in ben's hands then when we went to install it and plugged in my power and ground wires. that could been when it blew.. so now im without a amp unless my buddy gets his new system today i might have one..

Sucks tho..
