Im going to be getting 2 15" subs (160v.2 subs from ED). Im going to build them ~1.5cf enclosures that are sealed.
My original plan was go mount them flush to where the back seat used to be, the seatback, I was going to put a sheet of MDF right behind the metal where the trunk starts, and mount the drivers facing the front of the car there.
After looking at the car a bit more, I think it might be a bit easier to finish the car (finilizing work, and making her look pretty) if I dont do the trunk idea, and bring the box forward a bit more, might still extend into the trunk, but use more cabin space.
My question relates to the acoustics of the car (a sunfire coupe, but I assume a cav is the same minus the panels). Would the speakers sound better mounted where I was originally planning? or if they were more int eh cabin closer to the front? or does it make a negligible difference?
Logic tells me that the only major difference was that if i walled off the trunk, that the back of the car (outside) would rattle a LOT less, but Id still like to hear some opinions.
what do you guys think?
thanks!
when your subs face your trunk, the shape of the trunk acts like a second enclosure and the bass resonates better, but yes your trunk is going to rattle like crazy with 2 15's.
What do drivers faced forward in the cabin sound like vs. facing the trunk, IN the trunk? -- I really want the ones in the cabin to sound good
it will sound better and get louder if you face them into the cab (seatback) as long as you set the amps right and seal off the trunk
