Im using a poineer 760W (walmart FTW!) amp to power my 2 alpine Type-R subs temporarily untill I can afford a better amp.
The amp doesnt like to keep playing. It will play untill I turn up the volume then it will cut out. The light stays on so I assume the amp is still on, then it does a 'reset' type thing for about 2 seconds, and it plays for about 1/2 a second and repeats the process untill I turn the volume down. I initially thought it was because there was too few ohms, but it does it at 4 or 16 ohms.
Im wondering if maybe this is a common thing or that there might be a common cause for this to happen? Im looking to fix it (I havent taken it apart yet) but Im asking if anyone knows if theres something that I should look for when I do open it?
Im not concerned if its broken at all, Id just like to try and fix it so I can run it till I get a new amp.
thanks for any help!
check you fuse holder maybe something is loose. Leave you subs on and go jiggle the fuse holder and see if they cut out. If not walmart f'n takes anything back
I wish, they dont have the same amp at the walmart around here, i have no box or anything, and its all scarred from being in my car, sliding around and everything...
I checked the fuses and everything on the outside of the amp, no easy quick fix.
I know this is way off topic but i exchanged a vaccume that i used for 6 moths, and diddent even have a box
Touch the amp, is it hot? I have a 300w pioneer amp, and it did that when I turned it up, so I put a bigger ground on it, and it stopped doing it....

you want to bump, then they will bump and hit real hard and a lot good.
LOL
Its got a 4 guage gruond that i put on it yesterday, where the seatbelts used to be, I used a wire wheel to get all the paint off and everything. Ill check that today before work.
All of the wiring to the amp is fresh, After I took everything out from the fire I had (this amp wasnt in the fire at all)
I upgraded the Big 3
I ran 1/0 ga. to the trunk
The amp is running off 4 ga. power and ground wires for right now.
I think the amp has just had it.
I might just take it back, or try to anyways, unless someone knows what might be wrong.
My pionner do the same last year and It was a bad groud.
if its not the ground or anything you can find to be wrong, try to take it back. walmart usually takes back about anything, even if you've had it for a while. those type-r's definitely deserve a better amp though.
Check out my build thread!
^Yes they do, they sounded so GOOD on my brothers fosgate 1000a2 ... unfortunately he's using it for his 10" solo-x now.
Its only temporary. Im not sure what Im going to get to power the subs, I wont have the Type-Rs for long anyways, Just using what I have till i get enough to get good (not blown) speakers.
just the subs are left to buy and with the specs on them Ill start my custom box build.
Waiting on money flow.
