Ok, I live in an apartment and it is a studio, so I have no seperate rooms nor do I have a garrage. I was thinking about building a sub enclosure because it sounded more fun that buying one. Well, here's the thing, I can only build it in the center of my room, so table saws and MOST powered are out of the question, I could probably deal with a jigsaw for the hole the sub drops in. But what kind of wood should I get, and is it possible to saw it with a hand saw? Past that I've got the drill and I can get building instructions on some other threads. Thanks
Theres going to be ALOT of sawdust if your using mdf. I would recomend a jig saw or skill saw. and an extra pair of hands with a shop-vac.
skill saw, some straight edges and clamps.
You can get perfect cuts without a table saw, but you will be there for days on end if you use a handsaw, lol.

do what they do in paint booths put up some sheets and stuff and contain it all in one area. granted you arent going to keep it all in but you can control a majority of it
^Itd be controlled if you sealed a part of the room off, hang some plastic and tape it to the floor and ceiling.
Take the wood to home depot. Get them to cut it. Then Just build it in your apartment. You still "made" the box so it doesn't take any accomplishment away from you.
Warning, I've worked at Home Depot. A lot of the times the cutting machines get hit by carts, forklifts, etc. This knocks the alignment off, and will generally result in cuts that are not perfect.
If this is your only option, have them cut one sheet directly in half. Then, measure the piece to verify the saw's alignment is not out of whack.
that'd be the best route to go ..... make sure the machine is properly aligned and use that ..... if u buy the wood there .... i think they throw in 3 cuts for free..... double check that but ya ...... that way u eliminate almost all the saw work .....

NOOOO! They do not cut it good enough to build a box. Search some of the car audio forums and talk to people who have had home depot cut there wood for them.
DO NOT LET HOME DEPOT OR LOWES CUT THE WOOD.
Im telling you right now, your gunna have a ton of saw Dust, A Jig Saw will work fine, just take your time.
If you use a hand saw i promise, it will take you forever and will be very hard to get a good cut with...
Look up my build, im pretty sure i posted a picture of the mess. If you have carpet, dont even think about it..i have hardwood so cleanup was a little easier..
200 ft exentions cord out the window, use your side walk.
Don't you have any freinds that own a home?
Another option they DO have battery powered circular saws. You could use that but i am sure you will go through batteries like crazy.
They actually last quite a while...
I think I'll go ahead and cut it at home depot and make sure that EVERY cut is dead on or I'll make them redo it. And yea I have friends that own houses but they are either on the other side of the country or they don't have a garage to go with the house. If homedepot gives me crap, I'll just try to find a wood shop around, I'm sure they will charge an arm and a leg though. Assuming I can't find a woodshop, I'll just grab a hand saw and saw away for a week or two. Thanks for the info btw.
Try a pack of smokes for your neighbor to watch your tools for you outside your apartment while you go back and forth... I've done the extension cord thing many times... mad neighbors... dusty cars.
Go by a construction site with a six pack... that worked for my friend! He got lucky cuz every worker decided building a box is easier than building a house and finished it for him!
