possible theftlock question
Tuesday, March 27, 2007 4:12 PM
i dont know where to put this so here it is. i have a 98 2200 here with the wiring harness and thats it. the motor is hanging with a makeshift fuel system, radiator, and wires everywhere. now the motor starts but dies after 1 second. it does this as many times as i want to crank it. i cant figure out whats going on and how to get it to idle.this motor is going into a project i have going on but i want to weed all the unnecessary wires out.

thanks for any help

i thought the theftlock was only on 02 and up motors. i know my 01 2200 never had any theftlock type shutoff that i know of.

It's passlock. All 3rd gen j-bodies have passlock 2. Did you use the instrument cluster? Try putting the key to the ignition position, but don't start it. let it sit for about 15-20 minutes and then try to start it.

well it has a theftlock light thats why i thought of it.

the wires got cut off to the ignition. i pretty much got it figured out what wires do what up to the ignition, just not why it wont stay running. i have the cluster hooked up but wasnt planning on using it.

thanks for the help

Theftlock = radio feature.

Passlock = fuel kill. That's definitely your problem, if it's dying after 1 second.

You should be able to - i do believe the light is just to let you know what's going on.

I tried start my car without the cluster attached and it died after a second. Hooked up the three-wire passlock harness onto the cluster, car ran fine.
