6x9 Install Question
Sunday, March 25, 2007 3:03 PM
Hey everyone, I just picked up my pioneer 6x9s at the post office yesturday and i had a question about the install. I want to install these in my 94 Pontiac Sunbird 2dr btw. The wires that come in the box, are they THAT much better than factory wiring, or are they just the same. I was wondering if i can splice into the old wires to wire up my speakers.

Or should i replace all the wiring and use the ones that come in the box. I dont want to spend money on monster cables because i dont have money for that. Where are the old wires runned through if i should replace the wires. Would it be worth the trouble. Some advice would greatly be appreciated.

the wires that come with them..should be pretty short with connectors already installed.

You want to strip away a bit of the factory wiring behind the connector on the factory wires (don't cut off the factory connection) and splice the new wires into the stock wires. This will allow you to hook up your new speakers, without losing your factory plug.

Well, new speakers were super tall compared to the old ones, so i can't mount them like the old ones were. Im going to have to drill them into the deck. Hope it goes smoothly tonight, i took out my old speakers.

i dont know about anyone else here, but i just put pioneers in my 90 cav. i used a pin to release the wires from the stock connectors and just slid them onto the speakers. my wires are secured to the underside of teh deck and dont move. i left the speakers ratttling for a bit and the clips never moved at all. took less time then trying to strip wire without cutting it. i am gonna redo it a little bit, i'm putting my speakers on top of the deck instead, but in the stock spot i had no problems
