Help with install
Tuesday, March 13, 2007 9:46 AM
I just went out and got a wire harness and antenna adapter for the 02 sunfire. (harness: http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=176). the guy a future shop said something about an accessory wire, Can someone explain what he means by that? And also, Whats the best way to get the deck to turn on with ignition? And am i going to have to run a remote turn on switch for my amp? Or can i use one of the wires in the harness for that to turn on with my deck?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

thanks in advance...tom.

Well I would recommend that you get this done by a professional instead of attempting to do it yourself especially if you have no idea what you are doing. Paying $70 for an install is a lot better then paying to have a mistake of yours fixed.

But to answer your other questions, the deck will turn on with ignition when wired properly and there is a wire on the deck wiring harness that connects to the amp remote on.

Hey Tom,
I assume you asked "the guy at futureshop" the same question? As far as the deck turning on with the ignition as long as you wire your harness correctly everything should work just like your stock deck, only better. For the Amp turn on you need to use the "Blue-remote wire" off the back of the aftermarket headunit you have. Just run a wire from the amp to where your radio is and wire it. sometimes the wire is labeled "remote antenna" just make sure you get a wire that has remote on it!!

hope I helped and didnt confuse too much!!

You actually confused him even more. He's got a 2000+, it's not that simple

From my sticky:

2000-2005 Cavalier/Sunfire owners -

Confused on which harness to get? Don't want to spend high dollars on an install? Do yourself a favor and get a wiring harness for a 2000 Geo Tracker or a Chevy Trailblazer. Get yourself an add-a-circuit as well - you can get them at your local auto parts store. Get the one with the small fuse, not the bigger fuses.

Wire your harness as you normally would but one exception - the red wire - the switched 12 volt wire - you're not going to wire into the harness. Instead, crack open that add-a-circuit and get the 10 amp fuse. Put the 10 amp fuse in, unplug your winshield wiper fuse, and put the add-a-circuit into the wiper fuse slot. Replace the fuse into the add-a-circuit, wire up your red wire to the add-a-circuit wire (you're going to need a short piece of 18 gauge wire to do this) and voila! Your radio will work now.

Ive done installs before, But the previous ones werent like this....I do have an idea, But this has helped alot! Thanks muchly! A picture would be good....but now i see what the "add-a-circut" is It explains itself! What a great idea!! Ive never seen one of those before, Think i'd be able to pick one up at the local radio shack? (The source now i think).

And just for confirmation...This is what i need right?:

So with this, I run the red wire from my harness into the add a circut and then take out the windshiled wiper fuse, and replace it with the add a circut right?

Yeah, get the mini atc fuse one, and it has instructions for which fuse goes where. It's that simple.

Here you go :

.

Just for reference The bigger red wire is 4 gauge . The black wire is 8 gauge, The two smaller wires red and blue are 18 gauge.

Just cut a "X" in the piece that the wires go through. It is up high enough to where you can even see it.
