Can an amp wire connected directly to the battery cause it to go dead?

I'm asking because the battery in my friends oldsmobile died on him. He took it to the local chevy dealer and on their report it says that the amp wire caused the battery to die. This amp has been hooked up for close to a year now with no trouble before. The amp turns on and off like it should with the head unit.

I think the dealership is full of crap. They charged him $170 for a new battery and that bogus claim about the amp wire. The terminal was the easiest place to connect the wire too.

I just want some opinions from people on the org who know what they're talking about.

I had a chevrolet dealer tell me the same thing. I unhooked the amplifier and ran it like that till the new battery died just to show them it wasn't the amp. The finally traced it to the instrument cluster. Most dealers I've delt with will try to put the blame back on you if they can.

It's suppose to be connected to the battery, if it turns on and off with the headunit it is functioning correctly. Those stealership people are full of crap.

you want to bump, then they will bump and hit real hard and a lot good.

my thoughts exactly. His amp isn't even that big. I think it's 125watts x 2 rms. It's not like he's pushing 1200 watts or anything.
