So I made some custom door pods for my 6.5" components, the tweeter is mounted at the front of the door sill.
The way the speakers are mounted, the left speakers aim at the right headrest and the right speakers aim at the left. I know they should be pointing at the dome light but I only had a 1-week window to work on these and in the process I screwed up my aiming.
Regardless, it sounds good, but ONLY if I set my balance to left -1.
I think the main reason is because I pretty much finished the right side and got it all sealed up, but the left side has a few decent sized holes (I had to cut some away to make it fit). I filled the holes with expanding foam.
Will sealing the pod make that side louder, and thus balanced?
I know with a sub box if you lose the seal it sounds bad, but I figured with an infinite baffle setup like the door pods it wouldn't be a huge deal.
Or am I going to have to rebuild the doors?
I wouldn't suggest sealing the pods up at all, but that's me.

I dont mean sealing the speaker, I mean sealing the door panel to the door. If you can make sense of that.
The door panel only encloses the speaker from the front side.
? u have me confused. are you saying that there is some gaps between the door pod and the door panel. or are you wanting to seal up the pod to make it an enclosed pod? sealing up your midbass producing speaker in an enclosure that is to small will cause you to lose your midbass so i wouldnt suggest that. but now if there is gaps in where your pod and the door to meet up causing sound from the backside of the speaker to meet with sound from the frontside of the speaker, then yes that needs to be fixed.
as far as aiming it needs to be done by listening to the speakers as you do them pointing them at the domelight doesnt mean your going to have a great soundstage, its just a general guideline. what type of speakers you have, the type of car you have, how tall you are all will determine where they need to be aimed.

Here's a sophisticated artist's interpretation of what I mean.
The yellow is expanding foam in the holes
I guess I'll go through with sealing the holes and well see what happens. Just need some nice weather
So your needing to seal up you inner door skin.
The way i always do that is by riveting 1/8" aluminum panels over the holes, make the door skin a solid piece, then dynamat over the whole thing.

i sealed my cdt midranges to the metra adapter. Just put a piece of cardboard ofer the magnet and sealed it to the mount. I have only done one i will give you a pic when i do the other
Yea learned that now it sounds like poo poo. I am gonna change the back though
Btw i had to make a new name
I would cut a big hole in the bottom. not the back but the bottom. you dont need them unless your worried about moisture in your door.
