need suggestions for new audio setup
Saturday, March 10, 2007 3:49 PM
Im planning an new system this summer and I have no clue what to get. I know Im more into SPL over SQ. I dont plan on spending more than $2500 on the entire setup. I want RE XXXs but I cant find any prices anywhere. Im open to any other sub suggestions, tho.
I dont even know where to start looking when it comes to amps. So any suggestions will help me out alot.

The only problem that Im dealing with is that I'll be having all my airride stuff in the trunk, as well as the audio, so space is an issue.
Any and all help is appreciated.
Thx
Michael

Its Scott from RE making them

And i never thought much of Hi-Fonics, but everyone is using them and it seems to me as they are the way to go. Ill be upgrading to one when i pick up my second 18 from them...

I've actually heard of Fi, they look good, but the site u gave me doesn't list any prices. I need to prices in order to get my research done. I like to get my research done ahead of time so I know about how much $$ to set aside.

I'm looking for either a single 18" or dual 12"s. I want to be running about 5000-7000 watts total. I need specific models.
Rockford and Alpine are out, never been a fan of either (as far as subs). I like the looks of Audiobahn but I heard they suck.
I'll never own another Rockford amp, I just dont like them.
If I go with just one 18", kicker solo x for example (retails for $1300 but I can probly get it cheaper), is there an amp out there that wont break my budget of about $1000?

FYI: I'm building this car for mostly looks, so chrome or CF = good for shows.
Thx
Michael

They may not be pretty , but Treo subs are the best I have heard. And there is no way you are going to be running 5k to 7k watts. If you buy a good quality amp from a manufacturer that does not over-inflate there rated output you will find that 500 "TRUE" watts of power will run your mids, highs and your subs. I would run one 4 channel amp from Zapco, use there new Digital amps and you can program the sound stage of your system using your laptop through the amps digital interface. If you do the work yourself, for 2500 bucks you could have a competition winning system that would hit so hard you would probably have to replace your back window. figure on 1000 for the amp 300 for two subs, 300 for a set of 6.5 components up front, dont worry about rear speakers(your bass will vent into your car from the trunk through the stock 6x9 holes in the deck.spend another 600 on a flip out screen dvd player. Now you have 300 dollars for an amp install kit and some mdf to build your box from(which is waaaay more than you need). If you find any places to save money spend it on your 6.5 components and definitely some dynamat. Zapco has a set of 6.5's that are unbelievable but they are around 800 bucks a set. Focal also makes some great speakers, you should go and listen to some at a local shop to decide.

My back window is already lexan, someone decided they didnt like my car so they trew a brick thru it,so I just got a lexan window installed cuz I found a deal I couldnt pass up ($50). I'd love to see 5000 watts blow it out. It may only be 3/8" thick but its strong as hell. Im gonna be getting Pioneer components (I have an excellent hook-up on Pioneer products-but I hate their subs). And dont tell me theres no way I can run 5-7000 watts, I have a friend with a reg cab S10 pushin 10K outta 3 15"s, granted every window on the truck (beside the windshield) is lexan. He got me the deal on the back window.

I heard/looked at some Memphis subs (forgot the model #), damn theyre loud. I think he was running 3K watts. Too bad theyre 15"s. I want 12"s or a single 18". Ive got my heart set on those particular sizes. Im almost set on the kicker solo x tho, I ve never heard a bad review on it. I know its gonna be loud. 12" solos are loud as hell so I figure an 18" will be plenty loud.
Thx
