Does someone know how the Tach on a '96 Sunfire (2.2L) gets its signal ? I know it comes through the data lines from the PCM to the I/C PCM. But how does the PCM get the info ? Is it from the Crank Sensor 7X wire ?
what do you need to get the signal for? i know how to get the tach signal. not sure what you are trying to do with it but im not gonna tell you til i know you arent' going to nuke your car.
lmao, funniest reply of the day.

I'm not going to nuke it, but I did blow-it with a Pontiac 3800SC V-6. I want to use the stock gauges, and want to feed a signal from the V-6 to the Tach somehow. I have the FSM's for the Sunfire and a Chilton for the V-6, but I'm still lost here.
Dark green wire with white stripe is the VSS output from the PCM to the cluster (on 95-99 cars at least). It's pin B2 on the Pontiac, B3 on the Chevy.
I don't think you can drive the Sunfire cluster with the L67 PCM... everyone else that's done the swap had to swap the gauges too. I will be doing that anyway...
I see N8Ball2013 didn't bother to answer. He must have just felt like taking his "Cheap Funny Shot" then running -or- he doesn't KNOW the answer.
I bow to the "Lenko" who knows...
So, John. The VSS wire (C3-01) not only feeds the PCM info for the Speedometer and Cruise, but the Tach too ? Where does the PCM pull the Tach info from ? The Blue/White wire (C2-32) on the CKP ?
BTW John... You have an invalid pointer (line 43) on you web page. Can't go to the forum you setup.
If you're swapping from 4 to 6 cylinder tach reads differently, so it won't work.
I refuse to accept that. GM PCM's work the same or close. They all communicate from point2 point. All you have to do is find the point. Now, the 7X won't match the 15X, but an adaptor could fix that.

I bet it has something to do with the Tan wire (A2) which goes from the PCM to the Cluster.. that tells it all it needs to know. What year is the L67 out of?
So you refuse to accept that, hmmm, then why would there be separate settings on a 4 cylinder engine for an aftermarket tach, separate for a 6 cylinder engine, and 8 cylinder engine? Hmm, the extra spark plugs and coil pickups don't mean anything, sorry I'm just dumb and I forgot you already know it all.
Lanman... Are you related to N8Ball2013 ? You both want to put people down rather than help them like John...
not about putting people down. John gave you the answer. what more do you need. im pretty sure ive helped more than my fair share of people here and so has jeff Btw in case you missed it this is his answer

Actually I am. Nate is my brother from another mother
I looked at the Grand Prix wiring... and that same Tan wire for the UART signal is present... you know, it just might work
But only if you are using a GP L67 PCM... I know my Park Avenue is wired slightly differently... it has the BCM, so it's got the Class 2 wiring (unlike the GP until.. 04?)
I still don't think it's going to work because a 4 cylinder tach and 6 cylinder tach are two completely different animals.
Guys, thank you for helping.
