actuators??
Thursday, March 08, 2007 7:53 AM
i searched around, but all i found were posts about alarms and door poppers....

im wondering what kind of actuator(s) i would need to raise a 20-24" LCD tv. i plan to have it standing strait up, and will raise out of a custom built trunk setup. anyone have any ideas how to go about doing this? or what type of actuator i would need to accomplish this? i know basically nothing about how they work, so consider me a noob in this department.

any info is much appreciated

Hi Joe, I do believe you're talking about linear actuators. You should have no problem finding ones that fit your need. Since the television is light weight and you'll probably be using two, the only thing you might want to figure on is length of the throw. Hmm, I just got to thinking, you might be able to get away if you use a wall mount and use just a single acutator out of the back middle of it. You'd have it off of a basic 3 position switch. Forward, it would go up, middle would make it stop, then backward would make it go down.

thanks for that! im thinking it will be about a 1 foot movement to go from the down position to the up position

thats a rough estimate guess. the end measurement will be the exact height of the tv i go with. im going in about an hour to pick one out

yeah that should easily be done with a single actuater. im thinking of sliding ball bearing brakets on each side to keep it lined up and on track and then a single actuater in the middle to push it up. the longer the actuater the more the cost so i'd try and work on a way of getting it to move as far as possible with as little travel of the actuater as possible. such as a level arm attached to the tv on a fulcrum so the actuater pulls down say 6" on one side of the fulcrum and it causes 12" of lift on the tv side. i know selectproducts.com sells actuaters might be able to find them cheaper else where, but its pretty much just going to be a custom lift setup because the acutater will jsut come with two mounting pieces and the actuater itself i believe.

agreed, but when your spending $500 on a tv for a car, thats the easy part

I was just looking at that site with the $99 acutators, I noticed they have a tv lift section near the bottom of the left link bar. Just pointing it out :0
