Okay I installed three gauges in my car yesterday, Volt, Oil Press., and A/F. I had previously had different Volt and Oil Press. gauges in, so I just re-used the existing connections. My problem lies with the A/F gauge. I bought the Autometer Z-series electric A/F gauge. Install is pretty straightforward, three wires coming out of the gauge: Red, Black, and Purple. Red for 12v ignition, Black for ground, and Purple to splice into the O2 sensor wire.
I followed the instructions exactly, connected the 12v wire to my existing 12v ignition wire for the other 2 gauges, and the ground to my other existing grounds for the other gauges. I then connected the purple wire to the O2 sensor wire, between the connector and the PCM, just like the instructions. Well, the A/F gauge didn't work. I used a multimeter to test whether the + and - wires were making complete circuits and they were. I tested the O2 sensor wire, and it had no voltage running through it. I don't know if it's supposed to have any voltage running through it, but I tested it anyways. The gauges are brand new, so I can't think of any reason why the A/F isn't working. The Autometer website says that their O2 sensor might be needed, but I searched here and nobody mentioned using it.
I assume it's possible I got a faulty gauge, but I wanted to see if anyone else had the same problem or a solution. Thanks,
Jason
try letting yoru car heat up first. your sensor might not read untill your O2 sensor reads 600 degrees. also. you might want to recheck your grounds and power wires. i know i had a crappy ground and my gauge would barely read or not read at all. so i got to screwin with things and found out that that must be my problem. im still not 100% sure tho. but its worked fine for over a week now.
Okay well I went through and checked al my connections again. Turns out the ground wire somehow came out of its connector. All is well.
sweet. im glad you got it fixed
Hey instead of starting a new post i was jw.. Where do u get the 12v ignition swithc where woudl i tap to get the power.. also where exactly do u hook the purple wire up it says to teh vehicle wire harness..
