My final amp outlook for some time in the future will be a kicker zx400.1 amp powering 2 subs and a kicker zx350.4 amp powering my satilites. So I was wondering exactly how to wire it without popping a fuse when there's a bass hit (150A fuses with 4gauge wire max out at 1400w peak, or so I've read) and Not spend more money on the wiring than the amps. My initial thought was to run a 4 gauge from the battery post to the trunk and into a distro block. Then run a 4 gauge to the zx400.1 and an 8 gauge to the zx350.4 since those are the recommended wire widths for each amp. Now the problem is (as stated earlier) the 4 gauge wire comming from the battery will be protected by a 150A fuse (required for 4 gauge?) which will pop if I turn my amps up all the way and get a base hit, sending the total peak wattage upto 1500w which is 100w past the rating on an 150a fuse. Can anyone recommend a kit that I can use that might use some thicker gauge wire and higher amp fuses that wont cost a fortune. And is it possible to run dual wires from the battery to the distro block? If so that would be the best route I think.
thought about getting this amp in general if I have to go to the 1/0 gauge from the post to the distro block. "Kicker PKD1 - Kicker 1/0 Gauge Dual Amp Power Kit". and it's got everything I need for my first amp I'm going to install and just short the 8 gauge from the distroblock to the zx350.4. Should I get it?
Ok, I give up, Scratch the previous questions. Right now I'm going to just install the ZX400.1. I need a 4 Gauge 40 amp wiring kit. Anyone know of a good one for cheap?
Lol, that simplifies it. lol. Thanks
um you can use a gauge for 40 amps. But i just got the pkd1 from kicker and that thing is a beast. you will have plenty of power with the pkd1 and the wire is really flexible. I got mine in a ebay auction for $68 shipped. But theres a few on ebay with a BIN price including shipping for around $90 I would go with that
Think I got it all down. I just drew the diagram on paper and checked things off as I dropped them in my cart at cardomain.com (seems like a good site) and looks like I got everything. Probably wont go with the kicker package since my budget this month is kind of low.
